I was really excited to try this restaurant out after some friends of mine discovered it and really liked it. Initially we wanted to do dinner, but plans changed so we went for appetizers and drinks with a plan to go back another time for dinner with more friends. I ordered a drink when I ordered my appetizer. Our appetizers came out but not my drink. We began eating our appetizers and still my drink had not been brought to the table. The restaurant was not at all crowded and I noticed the bartender was at the bar in conversation with other patrons. After having waited so long and the drink still hadn't been made, I decided to remind the waitress that I hadn't received my drink order and ordered a different drink instead. My party had pretty much finished their appetizers when the waitress returned again without my drink. Since we were preparing to leave, one of my friends asked about the status of my drink. The waitress responded that she (not the bartender) was fixing it now, but my friend and I each felt that the way she responded to us was short and rude. Because I felt 1) we had been in this establishment for at least 20 minutes after placing my drink orders, 2) the drink still had not arrived by the time we were preparing to leave, and 3) the way the waitress responded to my friend's question about the status of the drink, I decided walked up to the bar to cancel the order with the waitress. When I told her I wanted to cancel the order, she told me she was halfway done making it. I responded that I'd been waiting at least 20 minutes for 2 drink orders and hadn't recieved either and at that point we were ready to leave. I again felt the waitress had an negative attitude with me and my request despite the fact that the wait time for the drink ordered when we first arrived was (or at least should have been seen as) unacceptable. I paid in cash for my order and when the waitress brought the change back, a coin fell on the ground and another friend picked it up and handed it to me...not the waitress who dropped it. Again, I was really looking forward to trying and returning to this restaurant. I was even texting a friend of mine at the start of our visit telling her how we had to come back to try this restaurant out. Sadly, I don't think I'll go back because how I feel I'm treated matters so much in my patronage of any establishment. Again, it too bad because it seems like a really nice place to have an evening out at. Maybe we just caught an...
Read moreNever again. My friend Lika and I had a terrible experience. The food was good, that is it, except for the mac n cheese. Tasted like a novice made it. The service was bad. We were the only customers in there at the time. Vinroy Reid was there. He's running for office to my understanding. He was nice to us. But those ladies. Awful. The girl taking our order was damn near illiterate. No matter how many times we said our orders, she couldn't get it right. Lika and I asked for cups of water several times and no one gave it to us, but one of the ladies was trying to sell us some type of punch they had. And they told us much later on that they only offered bottled water. The communication there is horrendous. Then we were leaving and needed to pay. We could've walked out of there without paying if we wanted to because they were so inattentive. But we're honest people so Lika and I weren't gonna do that. By this time Vinroy was talking to another table. All 3 ladies in the back were servicing ONE customer so no one was available to take our payment. Finally we were able to pay but they attempted to overcharge Lika. I had asked for a plastic bag several times and never got one until Lika had to forcefully ask them and they finally gave it. Their point-of-sale took Lika's credit card but wouldn't take mine. I gave two cards to try and neither worked. My cards are legit, I have money and my cards worked earlier. So they asked for cash. I mean it wasn't even busy in there! And they all moved so slow and just didn't care. We won't...
Read moreI work for a major auto dealership in Charlotte, and I was having a small team meeting. I decided to have Jamaican food for the meeting, so I stopped by Mama's Caribbean Grill on Central Ave in Plaza Midwood, and dropped off a $160 order on Thursday night, for Friday morning pick up. Friday came, and there was a power outage in that area, so I expected them to be closed, like every other business in that area. I thought I'd have to pick up fast food instead, but I went to Mama's that morning, just in case. When I got there, it was dark inside, but the door was unlocked. I went in and asked if they were open, they weren't, however they opened just to make sure my order was fulfilled! They were in there cooking my order by flashlight, because their gas stoves were still working. I couldn't believe it! Then, they told me they didn't have a way to take my card payment, due to the power outage, but that didn't matter to them. Without skipping a beat, they allowed me to take the entire order, based on trust that I'd return to make good on the payment. I returned that evening and paid them, but I must also make sure that everyone knows how much I appreciated them going Above And Beyond with customer service! My team LOVED the food, and I will be a return customer forever. They did what most wouldn't have done, and I truly...
