I recently had the pleasure of visiting this modern southern style restaurant for brunch, and I must say, the flavors and dishes transported me to the heart of the South. The restaurant had a trendy and inviting ambiance that perfectly complemented the delicious fare they had to offer.
Let's start with the highlight of the meal - the chicken. It was nothing short of excellent. The succulent, perfectly cooked chicken had a crispy golden crust that sealed in the juicy goodness. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, with just the right amount of seasoning. It was clear that the chefs had put great effort into ensuring that the chicken was the star of the show, and they succeeded admirably.
Accompanying the chicken were the delectable potatoes. These Southern-style potatoes were wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. They had a crispy exterior, giving way to a soft and tender center. Each bite was a heavenly blend of flavors, with hints of herbs and spices that enhanced the overall experience. These potatoes were truly a standout addition to the meal.
The biscuits were another delightful component of the brunch. They were flaky, buttery, and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Freshly baked to perfection, you can enjoy these on their own or with the jams and butters available, but either way the biscuits were an absolute delight.
Now, onto the only downside of the experience—the wait for the food. Unfortunately, the wait was longer than expected, which detracted from an otherwise enjoyable dining experience. While I understand that we did go on a holiday, we did make reservations, were seated on time, and still had to wait over an hour. However, it's worth noting that the quality of the dishes did make up for the delay to some extent.
Despite the longer wait, I would still highly recommend New South Kitchen & Bar for their wide variety of southern offerings. The chicken, potatoes, and biscuits were simply outstanding, showcasing the rich and comforting flavors of the South. If you're looking for a taste of Southern cuisine with a modern twist, this restaurant is the place to be. Just be prepared for a potential wait, as the food is definitely worth it.
The flavors, attention to detail, and ambiance combined to create a truly enjoyable brunch. I'll definitely be returning to savor more of their...
Read moreI met a friend of mine for dinner here tonight. I was pleasantly surprised that when we got there, it was not busy at all. Once we were seated, the server came to take our drink order. It took probably 10 minutes to get our first beverage. Before the first drink came out, we ordered appetizers which came out pretty quickly. We had the fried green tomatoes and they were delicious. Once our drinks arrived, our server came back to take our main order. I ordered the trout with turnip greens, and my friend got the lemon roasted chicken with goat cheese and a side of mac and cheese. The entrees came out shortly thereafter, and after eating several bites of my trout, I realized that one of the tomatoes they had chopped up for the dish still had the label from the grocery store or food supplier on it. I pushed that aside and continued to eat. The trout itself was very tasty, but the turnip greens were rather lacklustre. We ordered our second drink, and that took even longer. In fact, they brought my beer but had forgotten my friend's drink. She had been drinking vodka with cranberry juice and the second time around they brought her Bourbon and cranberry. Who drinks bourbon with cranberry juice? Anyway, they fixed it and when the waiter brought her drink back out I mentioned the label on the tomato. I merely said, I'm not looking for anything free, but tell your Chef to slow down and pay attention. He offered truffles as a way to satisfy the situation, but I didn't want truffles. I just wanted an acknowledgement that the chef should slow down and not serve patrons vegetables with labels still on them. There was no apology or a mention of talking to the kitchen staff about it, so I let it ride. I still gave our server a 20% tip, because that's what I do. I would expect that the New South Kitchen should take more time when preparing their food and accommodating their guests. If the restaurant had been full, then I can certainly understand that. We were there well before closing and left well before they turned...
Read moreI’m not sure why we’ve waited so long to try New South Kitchen, but I’m glad we finally dined here!
Nicole was our sever and we could tell that we were getting service with a smile — even with a mask covering it. She did a great job of making recommendations when we asked about her favorite menu items.
Warm biscuits and butter are served with the meal in true Southern fashion. We started with a small plate of Baked Pimiento Cheese with red pepper marmalade and wonton chips. It was gooey and delicious— with the marmalade taking the flavor to the next level. For our entree, we enjoyed the Chicken & Waffles. The waffle was Belgian style and SO LIGHT! Most chicken and waffles I’ve had in the past were served with syrup but these were served with gravy and warmed jalapeño jelly as a counterpoint. Nicole wisely suggested that we order the jelly on the side so that we could control how much jalapeño heat we wanted with each bite — and she was right. The jelly does have a bit of a kick.
All in all, the meal was delicious and the service was excellent. And with many items on the menu that we’d still like to try, we look forward to returning.
We used Open Table to make our reservation and were happy to see upon arrival that they were separating guests by only using every other table. We also witnessed the servers going the extra mile in cleaning each table as...
