I want to first off say that the food is amazing here. Coming from a city where soul food is lucrative and flavorful, I was afraid I'd never find a decent soul food spot here in Charlotte but this place proved me wrong. The place is small but it's clean and well kept (family came right at 5). The service seemed decent enough with the owner acknowledging us and the server being adequately attentive. The atmosphere is great with great music and sports on the TVs. Ordered 3 meals which consisted of 2 of the 3 fried wings meals and one fried shrimp meal along with 2 drinks. The food was great with the wings being of good size and seasoned well. The everything green side was surprisingly flavorful and the seafood Mac n cheese was great as well with good sized shrimp. My major drawback with this restaurant is the pricing however. For soul food, everything seemed to be overpriced in my opinion. For one, there is a charge of $9 for the side of seafood Mac n cheese but there is no indication of if that's the upcharge if you select it as a side for your entree or just the price of the side itself alone. I was charge the full price of it, which I'm not complaining about; however, in that case I should've received an additional side with my entree that was INCLUDED in the price of my entree. Since the regular sides are priced at $4, I would guess that the difference of a premium side would come into affect but I was wrong. The server offered cornbread, which I assumed was complimentary to the entrees, only to find out that they charge extra for that as well (which is no where on the menu). Asked for double fries with the fried shrimp entree and I'm 100% sure it was a single serving. My biggest issue with the pricing is that there is an upcharge on each item BEFORE tax. 3 fried Wing combo is listed as $17.50 but was charged $18.20 each. 2 Drinks were $26 but was charged $27.04. Fried shrimp was $19.50 but was charged $20.28. From my calculations, it looks like each item was subject to a 4% increase if you were paying with card versus cash. Even after that, the full total is hit with another 4% card fee after tax. The price is only what you pay if you're paying in cash. There's nothing posted online, in store or on the menu regarding this. As much I would love to patronize black businesses, this isn't it. The food was great but spending $100 on 3 meals and 2 drinks at a soul food spot is ridiculous. I can't see myself visiting again unfortunately.

Stumbled in on my way to the grocery store to shop for dinner and I'm so happy I did...where do I even start? Let's just say my expectations were not high as unfortunately here in Charlotte, I have become used to being overcharged for subpar food. This was not the situation here.

I ordered the collard/kale dip (a favorite of mine that I make at home) for my app. I then ordered the fried wings and was told, when I announced that I'm not a big fries fan (especially at this price point), that I would be getting yams as a sub by my wonderful server, Josh. He said it with such confidence that I didn't want to let him know I don't even like yams! For my second side, I ordered the mac and cheese. I ordered the jerk sauce on the side. Lastly, I ordered the Raspberry Lemon Drop for my cocktail. They have dessert listed as "cake of the day." And since cake is my favorite food group, I had to ask what was today's? Turns out it was sweet potato pound cake and since I hadn't received my food then, I incorrectly took a sigh of relief because, again, as not a sweet potato fan it wouldn't be tempting.

My app was seasoned perfectly! They even took the time to season the tortilla chips. If you follow me, you know how I am about layering flavors! They didn't miss with the fried chicken. It came out hot and crispy. The jerk sauce was a little thyme forward, but I appreciate their take on it. But let's have a conversation about the yams and mac and cheese. They slapped (as the youngins say)! The way they are traditionally cut is one of the reasons why I don't like yams, so I appreciated them cubing them instead. And they pretty much have gotten the mac and cheese perfect. Seasoned, gooey, with the baked cheese on top - chefs kiss.

So Josh, the top tier server that he is, asked if I was ready for my cake? I guess he saw how I knocked back them yams and assumed it only be the right segue for the pound cake to follow. So I did what I quickly learned was the right thing to do and answered, "yep." But told him to bring it to go cause I was full. He brings it to the table in the to go box with a bowl of ice cream. I ask, "what's up with the ice cream?" He says, as he shrugged his shoulders, "that's how it's served." Then he had the nerve to say, "gone ahead and taste it. You probably won't be taking it home." Oh, I know a set up when I see one. I popped the top and scooped a bite of cake with the ice cream. WHY WAS THE CAKE WARM?!?! Seriously?!?!? So needless to say, Josh was right yet again, the durn cake didn't make it home!

Thank you for great service and fantastic food from start to finish! I'm a huge fan of a complete follow through. I can't wait to come back and I'm...

We first fell in love with Sol Delish a year ago while at the smaller location and although the wait times were long the service was impeccable. We visited the new location today and I could not be more disappointed. We were asked if we wanted to sit outside because the wait time was shorter, we agreed and that's where everything went down hill. We were seated and waited 40 minutes for drinks. We waited another 40 minutes for our food. I didn't receive my side order. We waited another 30 minutes to pay. It's like we were not even customers. Completely forgotten about. It was only when we spoke up did anyone acknowledge us. We were told the outdoor area wasn't supposed to be opened and the wait staff wasn't assigned to that area. We spoke to the same manager several times and nothing changed. The young man assigned to our table NEVER came to our table once and when asked about the service his response was "That's not my section." and offered no assistance. From 12:45 until 3:15 we were told over and over by several different people "I got you." but nobody ever had us.

The wait staff's lack of teamwork and lack of accountability was very loud. If it wasn't their "section" it wasn't their problem and this includes management. The amount of times we were told we would receive what we asked for and then waited an absurd amount of time to receive those items was ridiculous. 10 minutes for straws, my wife got them herself. 15-20 minutes for coffee refills. It was bizarre. I saw atleast 4 managers yet none of them resolved the issue of the wait time for customers on the patio. The manager we spoke to said 'I wasn't expecting to take orders today.' and she didn't. The waitress who tried to help us was being pulled in every direction and was clearly overwhelmed helping the male waiter with the braids in his face because he just didn't seem to care. Anyone of those managers could have grabbed a device and serviced the patio area. Too many managers not enough team work. Too many excuses no resolutions. We were comped yes, but I'd rather have a great experience than to leave frustrated. Yes the food is amazing but with the service we received the food is...
