I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out Tryon House for the first time today. This is pretty much a southern dining restaurant with many protein options like country style steak, baked chicken, daily specials etc with farm-style sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salads etc. They also have sandwiches, gyros, and the like. If you’ve been to Sir Gus Sir Beef on the east side, you’ll know what to expect as it is similar. The service from the hosting to the serving is kind, helpful, and speedy! I enjoyed the broccoli soup which came complementary for dining in with my meal. The country fried steak was fantastic with a nice crispy texture and ohhhh my the portions are massive. I’m staring inside my to go box as we speak, and there is definitely room for another full meal in there! The cornbread is semi sweet and block shaped. The salad, although fairly basic with mostly lettuce and one tomato, was satisfying. I was slightly underwhelmed with the mashed potatoes so I would consider passing on that next time. The sweet tea was wonderfully sweet and refreshing. The main star of the show to me which came recommended by my server was the chocolate pie. The chocolate pies (which stare you in the face as soon as you walk inside the restaurant) are OUT OF THIS WORLD and perhaps some of the best I’ve ever had! You will definitely want to save room for that. All in all, I 100% enjoyed my experience today and I am not surprised at all to know Tryon House has been doing their thing for 27 years now! Check them out!

I was going to try this place out because of its review score, I walked in the by my self. An elder mexican man at the counter with a weird accent asked me what I am doing here, I said I would like to dine in. He said I don't take orders at the counter, I said that's fine I'll wait to be seated. Waited there then the older mexican guy asked me if I wanted to sit, I reply no thanx I'll wait for my table, at this time restaurant is not busy. A waitress comes to table grabs a menu and walk away. I though it was my turn to be seated since I was the only one there waiting to be seated. I followed her thinking she was going to walk me to my table and then I hear the short older mexican guy say, why you in a hurry? U wake up in the wrong side of the bed? I calmly asked him if he was ok? He reply, im not going to serve you with that attitude . I was kinda shocked by this little older mexican guy. He said I can call the police if I wanted to. I reply no thanx and left very unsatisfied.

The food here is very decent for the prices. If you dine in, you get free soup. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant is almost always clean. The reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the ordering experience on Doordash, Grubhub, etc. is a bit inconvenient. For example, if I want to substitute french fries with fried okra here, with nearly all delivery meals, I am out of luck; because certain vegetables are only available for delivery by ordering a vegetable plate. In fact, the ONLY way I can possibly order fried okra, cole slaw, collard greens, or apple sauce, for delivery from this restaurant, is to order a 3 or 4 item vegetable plate. Those vegetables are not on the list of items for which I can substitute fries, and there is no option at all for me to order a single side dish. It’s more of a minor inconvenience, but I don’t appreciate not being given a choice about something easy like this.

I went to this location yesterday November 9 2024. I ordered liver onions not cooked hard with rice and green beans with the liver and onions on top of the rice. When they brought it out to me the rice was in a separate bowl so I asked if it could be fixed the way I ask and server didn’t respond , she just took the plate. When she brought it back I started to cut up my liver and it was difficult to du because it was cooked hard. I then went to taste it and it was cold. The server was coming out at the time and I told her my liver was hard and cold. She asked if I wanted her to warm it up in the microwave and I told her no because it was already over cooked and the microwave would make it worse. A manager then came out and told me that the food goes from the grill to the table and it was no way it would be cold. He then proceeded to tell me I was taking advantage of the situation and told me he would put it in the microwave but he wasn’t making me another plate. So I told him I didn’t want it I’ll have something else. He told me he wasn’t giving me anything else and that I could call the bus that dropped me off and tell them come pick me up because they don’t play someone trying to take advantage like that.

I’ve been there several times and have always gotten good customer service, I will never go back and with be reporting them to the American...

I looked online to checkout the menu and saw a price for the breakfast special. When I got to the restaurant an older gentlemen was at the counter. This gentlemen turned out to be the owner. I asked him about the special and he said that the online price was incorrect. I thought that I may have shown him the wrong item. As I searched the menu the owner started to get upset yelling and saying get out. For what I had no idea. Then I said that I would pay the price that was listed in the menu. He became more and more angry. Shouting and using profanity towards me telling me to get out. It's really a shame that we go to places like this. When really people like this owner just wants your money. He has no respect and no integrity but we continue to support his business. I saw a price that I thought was the price of the item. It's an honest mistake. I work customer service it's happened to all of us. We see a price that's incorrect. This place needs to be shut down. Stop supporting this business so something better can take it's place. It's outdated it has no class and it's dirty...
