Wheelz Pizza of South End Charlotte — Restaurant in Charlotte

This was an interesting and overall fantastic pizza experience that definitely warrants five stars, despite a small snag with timing! We placed an order for a 14-inch pie while leaving the Whitewater Center and were quoted a 20-minute prep time. Remarkably, we received a text saying it was ready just three minutes later! While this amazing speed meant the pizza was no longer hot when we picked it up, I can't hold that against them—we were the slow ones! The pizza itself was excellent. The crust was thick but the body of the pizza was thin, as you can see in the pictures—a really great structure. The flavor was absolutely spot on. While it’s not the charred undercarriage of a New Haven style, I liked this crust a lot. A great added touch: they even provide an extra container of dipping sauce for the crust. Tried this place after a long day moving. Didn’t care for it. This is fast food pizza, not a traditional pizza establishment where they are tossing dough and slinging pies in and out of the oven.

The pizza comes out in minutes. Unless you are a New Haven style pizza joint with a 600 degree coal fired oven on super thin crust, that’s not how pizza is made. Came out too chewy and tasted undercooked. Reminded me of frozen pizza, thawed out and then cooked. Not saying it was but that consistency as an example. Sauce was just basic red sauce.

The invention of the Wheel has finally culminated into stunning perfection. To say that this locations pizza is incredible would be an understatement. I've lived my entire life without the ability to see in color, and after one bite of this hot steaming circle of magic they call pizza, I was able to see colors for the first time. Life has always been a bleak landscape of simple monotony, but alas, no more. This pizza has made me a better person, a better friend, and a better pet owner.
