First the good - the location is convenient, the downstairs rooms are pleasantly decorated. The receptionist was very helpful with dinner recommendations. The room was spacious. ||Now the bad - the bathroom was ancient and the toilet didn't flush properly and overflowed at one point. The plug in the sink had to be praised up with fingernails as there was no plug lever. There was no hand-held shower, and no shower gel. The floor was stained brown around the toilet. The strange radiator was rusty and made weird noises. The cream bedroom carpet was dirty. This isn't charming, just tatty.||The room is advertised as 'Free cancellation' (see the website) but the manager attempted to charge me $75 for shortening my stay by one night when I gave 6 weeks or more notice. Like just 6% of American hotels, according to the internet, they tried to apply a hidden 'Amenity fee' allegedly to cover the advertised 'Free parking, free WiFi' (see the website and booking.com) of about $25 per day - it took a battle at the end to get this hidden charge in the small print removed. You also get asked to agree to a 20% gratuity for breakfast on arrival, when you have not yet decided if there is good service. Why not just pay your staff properly rather than expecting 'gratuities' for basically doing your job?||The breakfast was overcooked and overdressed, small portions, no oatmeal, we tried all the cooked choices and were disappointed with every one - the additional items were charged at ridiculous prices - $4.50 (plus tax/gratuity - inevitably) for a single British sausage! Similar amounts for a slice of bacon. For almost all hotels with breakfast included, you get to choose what you want from a buffet, not have a limited overcooked (potatoes were dark brown and reheated) choice. The coffee machines gave at best extremely weak coffee, and sometimes didn't work.||The chain-link fence around the pool looks a mess - how about something a bit more in keeping?||This inn/hotel needs a customer-focused rethink. It could be so much better with more attention to detail, simplified pricing and flexible more generous breakfast options. The tatty, non-working elements...
Read moreWe had our first stay in August 2015. Location is nice, walking distance to main street in Chatham & to nice small beach... and CVS if you forgot something. Plenty of parking. There are 2 adjoining lots. First impression of inn is how charming it felt, though old and needs more updating, it can be part of the casual charm. We stayed in the main building on tge garden side. Rooms have in-window ac units, so can be loud. Garden room is spacious and felt clean. Balcony is enjoyable. Complimentary products appear to be natural. The full American breakfast included with room is good sized. I had raisin bread french toast with fresh fruit. Only one small glass of juice per table (not person) included. Add on items are billed to room. Small in-room fridge though included must be requested. If you want it by check in, I suggest calling ahead. They are willing to bring it in as soon as you head out. They placed it in our closet. No room safes or microwave. Coffee and ice machine in common areas. We did not use pool but they do offer beach towels and chairs, but is first come first served only. Staff are friendly though could be better at helping out proactively. It is noted there is massage on website but no mention of it during tour. No mention of fridge availability, I had to ask. No suggestions on things to do. They will help if asked. Also, English is not their first language, which might be part of the issue. Only thing we really did not like is their fitness room... or basement in general. Really needs updating. It smells old, mildewy. Only have a bow flex and 2 step machines. No treadmill/bike. Dehumidifier seems like an 1970/1980s model, lights dimmed when plugged in and sounded suspicious so didn't use it. The 'spa' probably was in the locked room there but I doubt anyone would feel relaxed using it. The TV/computer access area, though seemed nicely furnished is uncomfortable due to mustiness. Garden/pool area is nice, just didn't have time to utilize.
Overall, if we stay in Chatham again, we will certainly...
Read moreWe were going to stay here for four nights-- we decided to leave after three, and here's why.
Once upon a time, this inn was probably very nice if older reviews are anything to go by-- however now it is in desperate need of TLC. Basic things such as peeling paint and untrimmed plants are not really the cause for this review, although they are a part of it. The room was incredibly outdated-- the bed was lumpy and rickety, there was no mini-fridge to keep food in, the closet door got stuck numerous times, and the bathroom was especially difficult to work with, (if you or anyone you travel with struggle getting up/down or otherwise need space next to the toilet to properly use it then you are in for a rough time). Because we were staying an extra night, we were moved to one of the cottage rooms for what was going to be the last night....oh boy. We didn't think it was possible for a room to be even more outdated, and yet. It was musty and humid-- likely from the very old hot tub-- and the only way air was being ventilated was from the OPEN skylight. When I say open I mean no glass, and only an aging screen-- we couldn't even close it because the shutter was jammed. As a result, there were flies, moths, and who knows what else in the room-- something that would only get worse at night. The room had chipped and peeling paint, stained sheets, and this time, the toilet was completely unusable (my mother with minor arthritis had to sit on it sideways....). Since we pretty much had done all we wanted to do in the area to begin with, we decided to drive back home that very afternoon.
I will say this, the location is very good given the amount of places you can go nearby, and the breakfast was nice (although why they label it as free on their website when you are charged every single time is a mystery to me) but the amount you pay is NOT worth what you get. Maybe if you're staying for a single night it would work for you, but if you're from out-of-state like we were or staying an extended amount of time-- find...
