Brewhaus is, simply put, a foundational experience of Chattanooga. While they've been here for a bit over a decade since 2011, they have established themselves as a highlight fixture of the culinary and atmospheric experience of the city.
Ever since moving here myself about 10 years ago, they have presented the most unique takes for an overlooked style of food. I am aware of no other German inspired offerings in town, and if there are, they cannot compare.
With half and full liters of German-imported beer (Weishenstephan is a favorite), and German classic recipes with an American twist, BrewHaus has cemented itself as a constant presence in the local restaurant scene.
Today they had on special the Hot Schnitz, a phenomenal "burger" of their schnitzel with Buffalo sauce, complimented wonderfully by tangy pickled coleslaw, pickles, and dots of blue cheese crumble. The spice of the Buffalo spice is undeniable present, but smoothed by the pickled tang of the coleslaw and pickles. Just as you get a piece of blue cheese and think that the creaminess is almost too much, the challah bun and tang come in again to save the day. Paired with one side (I got the potato salad, the best side ever, which is not like any potato salad you'd find in a store. Savory and with bits of bacon and pork hidden inside, absolutely delightful) and a half liter, it was a welcome break from the busy-ness of the day.
They also possess prime real estate, with a deck overlooking the pedestrian bridge, and under the watchful eye of Lookout Mountain in the distance.
Having lunch there today, on a cool spring day that was struggling to warm up, it was a simply sublime experience to simply enjoy good food cooked with care, a delicious beverage to pair with it, and enjoy the view and scenery of a Spring afternoon in Chattanooga.
My only disappointment is that my food was gone too soon, and with it my lunch break.
12/10, will always...

Alternatives nearby: Basecamp has excellent food and good beers. Frazier Five and Dime is excellent and actually upscale food for the same prices you pay here. Cherry Street Brewing has good beer and the food is excellent. Good burgers and Pretzels with beer cheese
Got the Schnitzel that was just deep fried pork which dried it out and was un-sauced and unimpressive and a unsubstantial for the price.
Bartenders didn't come back on a very slow night so I could order mustard or gravy for the Schnitzel (only thing on the table was Heinz ketchup and mustard, which... who would use those at a German place?). Didn't have different mustards out at any table.
$17 for the entree and $2 more if you want it dressed with gravy but they should never serve that plain. At $18 just go to Main Street Meats and get the best burger of your life. Why does it cost so much for mediocre fried food here?
Cost about the same for whatever grocery store brat we got, which was at least served with mustard.
That's not even what really bothered me. I bought a $7 beer to go with dinner because I'm eating German food and it was warm and flat. Didn't realize how insulting that was until I got home. I told the bartender before I paid for my unfinished beer and food and she just kinda went "huh", and said we'll check on that because you're not the first person to mention that. I'm not one to send food back or complain about the quality but this was supposed to be upscale and it was a huge let down.
Don't think I have a reason to go back here and really surprised this is...
