Wedding at the Edwin Review Other than the scenery and the ambiance I would not recommend having your wedding here. We were set up with false expectations from the Catering Sales Manager. General manager was rude and condescending once we discussed our experience, we felt unheard and misunderstood after everything and never felt like we received a genuine apology. There’s a whole list of things that went wrong but here are some:
Catering Sales Manager advised she would be there the day of to answer questions, coordinate, collect the cake/flowers anything needed the day of.. she was MIA all day until the ceremony. My cake lady tried getting ahold of her, but her phone went straight to voicemail. I called the front desk for help, they advised they would reach out to her and call me but never heard a peep. She told us many things that were inaccurate..
Reception issues: We strictly advised we wanted appetizers passed out once family pictures were complete and main course to come out when bride/groom are done with pictures.. instead they passed out ALL the food before the reception even started. My own mother wasn’t even able to eat until later in the night because the food kept running out. We decided to do drink tickets one per person.. the conversation with the catering manager was, “It’s your responsibility to pass our drink tickets” but she failed to mention we had to create the tickets ourselves… when I talked to the general manager about this she said, “well why didn’t you follow up with her about making the tickets” well it never crossed my mind??? What place would make you “create” your own drink ticket when you’re spending over $8k to have your event there? The day of the wedding the catering manager actually argued with me about this.. after my wedding party told her to specifically not stress me out and tell me about the ticket and food situation, comes straight to me and says, “You were supposed to make the tickets oh and all the food has already been sent out but don’t worry there is enough food”. It’s hard for me to even believe they cooked enough food since some people didn’t even get any. The cake fee… we were told in person to cut the cake it was $5, we thought wow that is cheap sure.. we even made that comment. What they failed to tell us is that is it $5 PER PERSON TO CUT CAKE.. we spent $315 to cut the cake.. yet we have over half the cake left.
All they offered us was 15% off the food for compensation.. which we paid over $1720.50 for. You also have only one hour to set up for decorations and then you have to clean up all your decorations by the end of your rental space. We would’ve reacted way different to all these things if we felt any type of understanding or apology but yet we feel discouraged and just left a bad taste in our mouth.. We are Chattanooga locals and we’ve always loved the Edwin hotel but we definitely will not be visiting after...
Read moreThis was our first family vacation with our two young sons. This hotel was centrally located in that we were able to walk to the aquarium, IMAX and many restaurants. The walking/running trail is literally right outside the hotel and the blue wooden trail bridge over the TN River was the first attraction our sons wanted to experience. The bridge is beautiful, especially at night from the hotel view. Literally, every single staff to management worker was so kind and accommodating to our entire family. The restaurant located within the hotel was so good, we ate there every morning. We would have enjoyed some cocktails on the roof top bar if we had not been traveling with such young children, but we did check it out and it was awesome! The gym and rooftop pool was really cool as well. The boys loved there was a heated outdoor pool on the rooftop; they said over and over how “fancy” this hotel was and they couldn’t wait to come back. The artwork throughout the hotel is beautiful, and the in-room soaps and extras were of high quality. While I consider this to be an upscale hotel, it was still an extremely family friendly place to stay. We have already recommended the hotel to family and friends and when we make it back to Chattanooga, I will not even stress about looking up reviews, studying hotels and ratings as we will go straight back to Edwin. The entire place was spotless and I’m extremely picky when it comes to germs. The bathroom was so clean it looked brand new. And after sightseeing all day at all the attractions with the kids, coming “home” to the nightly turn down service with fresh sheets, just hit the spot and we all were able to fall right to sleep. I could go on and on. Just trust me- I am extremely picky and my husband calls me high maintenance and this is true, lol, but this hotel surpassed my expectations. The only downfall is that I didn’t have enough time to go to the hotel’s spa. On the way out, I did stop by and buy a lavender scented weighted eye mask just so I had a little something, but the spa was beautiful and to be honest, I just didn’t want to leave the hotel. I hope this review will help you in your hotel decision, and trust that I was completely honest. This is not a paid nor sponsored review. I don’t even write reviews, but we had such a great experience. And when traveling with kids, I want to make sure we stay somewhere clean, safe, and accommodating. You really will love it here; whether you have kids or not,...
Read moreThere is one thing about this hotel that was 5-star, and that would be the Whiskey Bar on the roof. The staff there was knowledgeable, friendly and in a word 'perfect'. Clearly this is where you find the professionals. The food here was amazing, with a whiskey list that rivals some of the finest restaurants in the country!
The hotel on the other hand was a disappointment. The room looked gorgeous but look a bit closer and you'll find it's working worse than your old college apartment, just a lot cleaner. Try and order room service, the TV menu is a pain to navigate and there's apparently no other way. Try calling the front desk, but the cordless phone will die long before they answer (that's if they feel like answering). The shower was nice until you realize that there's no handle on the door to get out, the sink won't drain, the toilet seat is hanging on by one bolt... it's the details that diminish the quality of stay. And that's just the room, which I could've easily ignored.
The problem is the staff. I'm not sure if they're just forgetful or if they're oblivious to their role in the service industry. My biggest issue was with the front desk. Check in was easy and straight forward as usual however, I had ordered champagne and strawberries to be in the room when we arrive at 4:00pm. Not anywhere to be seen so I walk down to the desk and was told that the "people who do that" were gone for the day... fine, no biggie. I'll just try again in the morning. Ordered the same at 11:00am, to be in my room when I return at 4:00p. I was assured that the request would be easily handled, saw her write a little note because the phone was ringing. Cut our trip sightseeing short to be back for this little treat. Nothing. I tried the same thing the next morning, same time, same result. So, end result was no special treat for my lady, and continued disappointment for me. As a romantic type, I was extremely put off. This sort of thing has always been accomplished by the staff at most hotels I've stayed at in the past. It's always put such an unexpected smile on my lady's face it's practically the only reason I stay at places like 'this'. There are more things I could point out, like never seeing smiles when you come or go... It's odd what you miss. There was just this 'Get it yourself' attitude I got from most of the front staff the ones you usually interact with. Credit where credit is due, the cleaning staff was very kind and helpful. VERY clean...
