Not sure if the review will list the specific location, but this is the AJs near Chesapeake Square Mall off Portsmouth BLVD
Food: My husband and I are not very picky eaters. We like food. When I tell you that we were unable to eat this food, that means the food was beyond horrible. I told him my chicken wrap smelled like wet dog. He doesn't typically have a good sense of smell, but smell it anyway and was disgusted as well. He thought it smelled like a frog pond. His simple sandwich was awful as well.
Service: The server was out in front of the building most the time. We weren't offered any more drinks after finishing the first room temperature beers we ordered. Someone else brought our food, asked zero questions and turned and walked away quick. We were able to scavenge to find some condiments. The one server that was anywhere inside was the bartender which was having a very loud conversation with the people at the bar about how she "is not a loud person". We had to chase down our server to get the bill so that we could get the heck out of there.
Atmosphere: Not surprisingly, this place has never been very busy on the many occasions we've went. We haven't been there in several months because we usually choose a better place to eat but it was close and we knew it wouldn't be busy. It's never been good but it's never been THIS bad. We decided to try out the darts game. Asked the bartender for darts. When she brought them to us she told us that they were probably no good. She was not wrong. Only 2 of about 15 of them had tips on them.
AJ Gators in VA Beach used to be one of my favorite places to hang out, but it is obvious that each of these restaurants are very different. This one is the...
Read moreMe and my sister made last minute plans and decided to come here. We came around 12:30. Immediately when we walked in the bartender yelled “Last Call!” I was under the impression the bar closed at 2am. We ordered drinks and got some food anyways… About 30 minutes later I saw the bartender make a drink for someone at the bar… Then around 1:20 she comes behind us and tries turning off the open sign… Then says, as loud as she can and Extremely rudely, “We’re closed. Y’all need to finish your drinks” and walks off… She never made eye contact with use once…
She seemed to be giving the guys at the bar a little more attention than anyone else so I’m not sure if she was doing it to impress them…. Or if it was a race thing…. But I have never been treated so poorly at a business ever…
The food was great and the drinks were okay. The guy serving us was very polite. He served us right away. Checked on us a few times… He gave service I’d expect to get when I go out. And the place looked clean…
However the bartender being as rude as she was made me and my sister feel extremely uncomfortable and I would never come back here. Everyone in the room saw and felt her change the atmosphere.
We came 02/24. Saturday...
Read moreAfter talking my husband into trying this location we were sad to have a bad experience. The waitress didn't put his order in correct and he received the wrong order. When he told the runner she said he was wrong so we asked for our waitress to come over, she was over chatting with 3 customers that she apparently knew as she spend most of our visit at their table. When the waitress came over he explained he ordered something else (which he had pointed at when ordering so it should have been correctly ordered). She gave a quick sorry and quickly brushed it off. He was starving so he did eat the food that was brought however no manager came to apologize and the waitress went back to her friends again. I doubt he will want to return at this point which is sad as me and the kids enjoyed going the 2 times we went previous to this trip. I just with our waitress Maddison would have made a better effort to correct the issue or spent less time with her...
