Red Bones Raw Bar Seafood Grille — Restaurant in Chesapeake

My wife and I were checking out local dives & diners and came here based on the number of positive Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint! Unfortunately, the day we went here, they were having an issue with their exhaust vent and were unable to serve any fried foods due to the smoke it created in the kitchen. With that being said, we went with the cajun style tuna bites and the steak sandwich. The tuna bites were served with a few different sauces, including Wasabi. It was an excellent dish! My wife's steak sandwich was actually slices of steak and it too was outstanding.

The place has a cool, motorcycle crowd, local vibe to it. It felt like everyone there knew one another. They have a daily specials board and daily happy hour. The wait staff was friendly and very busy. Normally they have a shrimp special for $10.95 (friend or steamed) every Saturday. There is a separate smoking section (grandfathered in) and is separated by two swinging doors. I've got a crazy sense of smell and I did not smell smoke until I went to the restroom, which is right next to it. Everyone there was super friendly. Lots of beer selections, as well as a full bar.

I went here recently and ordered the "Fried Grouper Platter" which I was very excited about because I tend to eat large quantities of food after training, unfortunately I was served only 1 piece of grouper (rather small and heavily breaded, most likely a 6 oz filet) with a side of unseasoned fries. The worst part of this was the price which was $21. If I went anywhere else and ordered a $21 "platter" I would expect a minimum of 3 pieces of fish so this was very disappointing. Had it been listed as "fish and chips", I would expect 1 piece of fish, maybe 2 but I just simply don't understand how this could be justified as a platter for $21. If the kitchen was short on grouper and this was the reason I only received 1 piece of fish, it would of been nice to know ahead of time so I could of made an order change or perhaps received the meal at an adjusted price. Wings are kind of a specialty for these guys and they are indeed good. The waffle fries are also hit. I recommend this sweet potato waffle fries. However many of the side items are not made there locally but are frozen items that are reheated. There are a couple of items that really bring this place down. First, you get that heavy waft of smoke as you walk in the front door because the filtration system is not good between the smoking area and the regular bar area. If they have a live music going, you'll need to find a place far from the speakers. They are placed in an area and are loud enough to actually cause hearing loss, no matter what kind of music is being played.
