I will start by saying: the flavors of the dishes I tried were very good. You can tell that there are very distinctive flavors to each of the items and the chefs know what they are doing when it comes to seasoning.
I can also tell that there is great, great potential to this restaurant. But at this point, it is not realized. I arrived at 11:30 when the buffet was allegedly open half an hour. To be fair, they are celebrating Diwali and it looks like many catering orders were being prepared. That said, only a third of the buffet was set up. And by the time I left at 12:05 PM, the white basmati rice was just being put out! If you know Indian food you know that the meal is based on the staples either rice or bread. The bread came out about 15 minutes after I started eating. Most Indians are primarily rice or bread eaters with their meal, although of course, many eat both. But I am primarily a rice eater!
Again, the flavors were very good. But I will also say this: it is a very meat forward buffet. Most of the items were not labeled until after 12 PM and while I am very flexible, I lean strongly vegetarian. There were definitely not a lot of vegetarian only options, certainly not that I can tell. And some of the meat dishes I could not tell what kind of animal they came from.
They did apologize for the rice and tried to bring me some rice at the very end of my meal. But alas, I was very full by then. I was surprised when they did not offer me some kind of a discount for the inconvenience. I certainly don’t need that, but it would’ve been a nice touch given the challenge with their lateness.
Overall, I urge the owners and managers to put a bit more care to these issues. This space is very beautiful, and I can tell the chefs are very skilled. This review can change if I decide to try it again in the future. But I would rather go to my “go to“ Indian buffet just a few blocks up the street. On the day of this writing, the buffet is $23 per person. Whereas the buffet up the street (which is truly delicious) is $18 per person. I do not think that this additional $5 per person is at all justified given the quality and execution...
Read moreWe went to eat at Indian Garden today before making a 6 hour drive back home. I expected this place to be very nice all around because of how it looked online, but appearance is about the only thing of value within this establishment. It’s a very nice interior design, but I will say it was a pain to go up 3 flights of stairs with a baby and stroller in tow. The staff were friendly. One particular member of their staff was amazing and even played with our son so we could eat. She is the only reason that I didn’t give service a 1 star rating. We were immediately seated and served water while we looked through the menus. The water and glasses were dirty. We asked for new water and glasses. They came back with clean water, but the glasses were still dirty on the outside at this point. We ended up ordering the lobster curry, kulfi, and Line 39 wine. The lobster was imitation— fake. The rice served with the lobster was undercooked I think, but we ate it anyways because we were so hungry. I want to note here that the waiter said the curry had a big enough portion for two people, but this was very wrong. Definitely get one order per person if you want. The kulfi was decent. The Line 39 was served to me at room temperature and this is not a wine that you want warm. My fiancé asked them to chill the wine. They took the glass back and put it in a fridge I guess. When they returned with my drink after a bit the glass was cold but the wine was still room temperature. The waiter we had was not very attentive and the nice lady who played with our baby was a lot more helpful despite not speaking English as clearly as the others. I really liked her because he was fussy and she made him happy. I’ve never seen this kind of service before. Whoever she is she definitely needs a raise and I hope some of our tip went to her because she did most of the hard work while our waiter hid away in a different part of the restaurant. Oh, also some creepy guy stared at me the ENTIRE time but I guess I can’t fault the business for some random customer having a staring issue. Overall:
