I was not a big fan of this restaurant. I was excited to try it due to the reviews and high ratings and the fact that it was around the corner from my hotel, but it was a very mediocre experience. The food was not very good, at least not for my meal. I ordered the rangoons/crab puffs and they came out in less than 2 minutes and were cold and the pastry was very doughy which made me feel like they had been made a while ago and served to whoever asked for them first and not fried fresh. It made them hard to eat and not appetizing at all. They were not crunchy and did not have good texture which was disappointing since the filling had potential. The portion only came with 4 but they were large so I was okay with it until I had a taste. I also got the pan seared wontons and they also felt very cold and the filling was very unseasoned so it made them hard to eat. Out of the 6 that came with it, I could only eat half of one since they were not very good at all. I’m addition, I ordered the chicken fried rice. It took 25 minutes for the rice to get to my table and someone it was still cold and unseasoned. I was in Chicago for a conference so I dined by myself and it also felt like the staff was not attentive to my table or took longer to come by and even to get seated since I was alone. I pretty much got my check soon after getting my last dish since I just wanted to head out. I even ended up picking up a sandwich on the way back to the hotel since I was still hungry. Not worth the $40 price I had to pay for a meal I didn’t even enjoy or eat much of. Maybe they just had an off day, but this was just my honest experience. The only staff that was friendly and attentive was the Hispanic waiter that was on top of refilling my water and was giving friendly smiles...
Read moreThe best dim sum I've ever had. All the dim sum was fresh and hot. Did I totally eat the steamer paper and not notice because it was so tasty? Yep! We came on a Tuesday around noon and it wasn't busy. There is lots of space with a beautiful interior and bar. The service was exceptional and we never had to wait for a refill for water or tea.
The crispy pork belly is served at room temperature and extremely unctuous still. Many times you expect the heat to help melt the fat, but this has been expertly cooked so all the collagen has broken down into gelatin. Wow.
The buns and bao's were all fresh, steaming hot, and plush. Everyone says "it was like eating clouds" but this was one of the few times where I truly believed it. The filling is quite generous and flavorful whether it's the bbq to the shumai.
We preferred the shrimp crepe over the beef crepe. I did appreciate the sauce is on the bottom of the plate and not drizzled over. Many spots drizzle soy sauce ahead of time making the rice noodles far too salty. This was great. The beef had a tangy flavor I wasn't a huge fan of, but I was assured it was a very traditional flavor by my gf.
The shrimp is very high quality and has good shrimp flavor.
The desserts being warm was a big surprise. I'm so used to room temperature egg tarts that I've forgotten what it's like to eat one that's still warm and lightly crispy. If you reheat them at home in the oven many times they get overly dry... big fan of these egg tarts.
Honestly, everything was good. The prices are very reasonable, service was great, and the restaurant is beautiful. We were getting depressed because we hadn't had a really good meal in Chicago until MingHin Cuisine. We would legitimately fly back to Chicago for...
Read moreI'm not one to usually write a "negative" food review, but felt compelled to share this one after suffering a bout of food poisoning.
I was in town for a conference recently and decided to give this place a try based on the proximity from my hotel, the price ranges, and the solid reviews online.
My first experience with this place was dining in on a lazy afternoon where I was greeted upon arrival.
I was immediately seated and was offered a menu to begin my order.
After placing my order and receiving my food, I embarked on the deliciousness of my first meal (fried rice combination) and was very satisfied by my selection and portion size.
With this positive experience, I decided to give this place a try on a different night, this time for takeout, and that's when things took a turn for the worse!
My takeout meal for my second experience was a general chicken combination complete with white rice and the standard sauce packets.
I placed my order in store and it was ready in 10-15 minutes.
With my hotel being less than a five-minute walk from the restaurant, I was able to eat my dinner in good time and enjoy what I thought was a good choice.
Hours later, I would regret this decision when I was awoken out of my sleep to sound of my roaring stomach, and soon after, nauseous hurls of my vomiting!
I'll spare the graphic details, but let's say that my entire meal sans the leftovers made its way to my hotel floor for the housekeepers to clean.
I do not want to be the person to write this type of review but after my recent experience with takeout, I had to share my thoughts with the hope that the staff take into account what they are serving...
