On my 52nd Birthday today,I thought I was going to get lucky enough to experience a "3-Peat" of good or solid or better than average celebrity owned restaurant food."Harry Carey's"=Good."'Gordon Ramsey's"=Solid."Michael Jordan's Steakhouse"=Abysmal.Michael Jordan's Steakhouse is literally just another Over Hyped or Gaslighted restaurant.I ordered their 85 dollars 16 ounce steak that begins with the letter D with their "Truffle" fries.I asked the waitress we had to have my french fries be very crispy. When I got my food about an hour later, the french fries were NOT served freshly hot nor were they very crispy. My well done 85 dollars steak was maybe mediocre at best. All of the other steakhouses I have ever been to before today are better than Michael Jordan's Steakhouse food wise overall (even the cheapest ones like Ronnie's Steak House) actually. My mom ordered their Chicken & Waffles. She didn't like her food at all.She said the batter of the chicken was bad and even her waffle was bad too flavor wise (flavorless).I tasted both and she is NOT Lying about this. The spicy syrup that came with them was NOT good to me,period. She said she should've asked for Butter for her waffles and I couldn't concur with her more.My sister ordered their "Grilled Chicken Sandwich" and she said it's just another Chicken sandwich that she clearly doesn't really care for.She wasn't impressed by their "Truffle" fries sprinkled with cheese on top of them either. They are actually the best thing I tasted food wise, but this is by Default only though. My niece ordered their Salmon and she said she didn't like it either. My sister's boyfriend ordered their "Beef" meatballs and he did NOT like them either. He gave me a little taste of that and he is NOT Lying when he says their NOT good. For desert,I was "Lucky" enough to get their 23 Dollars Chocolate Layer cake slice for free because of my birthday today. It is a Dark Chocolate Layer cake slice with whipped cream on it.It was overwhelmingly rich in it's dark chocolate flavor and left something to be desired because of this fact too.In other words,I literally dodged a bullet because of NOT having to pay for it.The mens restroom was decent enough looking and cleaner looking than most male restrooms at most restaurants actually.Extremely Shockingly, they had HOT water coming from one of their faucets to wash your hands with from faucets that are motion sensor operated. They also had annoying background "music" atmosphere wise, but fortunately their volume was NOT Grating like too many other restaurants these days especially.Their seating is reserved with lightly cushioned seats and decent enough sized tables.Their lighting is brighter than most restaurants I have ever been to so far as well fortunately. They had television screens all over the dining area too with the usual sports broadcasts dominating the majority of their screens too.I heard that this restaurant used to be "Popping" about 15 years ago according to my sister's understanding of what she heard about it.If it was I can't tell and I will never know, because even those that don't like me should NOT come to this restaurant. For those of you that have never been here before,YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED‼️There is nothing you can tell me about Celebrity owned restaurants now. This is the third one I have ever been to,but the third time is most definitely NOT the charm for me unfortunately.I am officially 0 for 2 now for choosing bad restaurants for my birthday now. This is my second birthday in a row choosing a bad restaurant for my birthday that I have never been to...
Read moreMy husband and I came to MJ's Steak House on July 31. We were greeted by the most wonderful staff who walked us up these beautiful stairs to get to the second floor and sit at a window seat for two. The view was great. My husband and I enjoy visiting Chicago when we are in the state of Illinois. We have ALWAYS wanted to eat here and were waiting for the right time. Any who- We sat at our table for our one year wedding anniversary and although our table was perfect, it was a bit inconvenient because we were sat across a table of about 20 who were very loud and complaining just about everything. This is the only down fall that we encountered through out our meal. For Appetizers, we ordered the Wagyu Meatballs and the Signature Garlic Bread. Let me tell you, I despise Blue cheese. It is not a food I enjoy nor do I savor. However, the Signature Garlic Bread, was the most delicious, flavorful, crunchy bit of heaven that I have ever had. I am so happy that our waiter recommended this product. When the plate arrives, it has just the crunchy bread. The waiter then brings a almost like a gravy boat/ladle with the melted blue cheese and pours it in front of you on the bread. The meal is served to the perfect temperature. This is a must try! The Wagyu meatballs were also outstanding. The sauce that it comes with is rich in flavor and does not disappoint. The presentation is also exquisite! Entrees- For entrees I had the Filet Oscar with the Blue crab, grilled asparagus, & the Spiced Hollandaise. When I tell you that I did NOT regret my choice. This steak accompanied by the hollandaise or without was EXQUISITE. I could NOT get enough of this. As soon as I tasted the hollandaise it's almost like the steak wasn't enough to cover my taste buds because that sauce just made it OVER the top. The asparagus was crunchy and perfectly cooked and the crab was delightful! I didn't get a good amount, but I was having fun enjoying the steak. It was not fatty and cooked to perfection. My husband had the Wagyu NY Strip- Unfortunately, he was not a fan. He was not aware that his steak would arrive cut nor did he realize that it was much smaller than what we assumed. Although the ounces are on the menu, it was still a bit of a shock. The taste was not as strong as my meal was nor was it as flavorful. I tried his meal and I preferred mine over his. Needless to say, my husband did eat from my plate quite a it. For sides we ordered the macaroni and cheese & the parmesan truffle fries. Both sides were incredible but the Mac and Cheese was by far the superior. The crunchy top with the cheesy and soft middle made it all worth the money. For drinks- I had the Red Senorita and my husband got the Jumpman. Both drinks were pleasant to the taste. I did finish my alcoholic beverage and I don't drink much. My husband who is a huge fan, was extremely excited over his drink. (see photo). I also tried his drink and I usually dislike his choice of drinks but not the Jumpman. All in all. This was a WONDERFUL meal! One of our all time favorites. I would highly recommend the Filet Oscar with the blue crab, asparagus, and hollandaise as well as the Signature Garlic Bread! You won't be...
Read moreI so badly wanted to give this 5 stars. Our favorite steak house has been Bobs Chop house for a while now(both the Nashville and Dallas locations). When we saw MJ’s steak house we were so excited about the possibilities. At first my concern was how many short notice reservations were open, then as we looked at the menu options and the prices I thought “These are prices we would expect for top notch steak in Nashville or Lexington KY….but might these be a little low for a truly high-end Chicago steak house?” We forged ahead regardless of my concerns and it quickly became the disappointment I had feared. Our server must have thought he was working a Panera bread dining room instead of a full service steak house. We had to wave him to the table every single time we needed a refill or anything else. My daughter’s chicken dish was terribly dry, the “wagu” NY strip was anything BUT wagu and I’ve never had even a lower quality ribeye that was tough or dry but this ribeye was BOTH. I ordered my Ribeye med-rare and my wife ordered her “wagu” strip , medium. At this point I wasn’t surprised when my Ribeye arrived almost med-well while my wife’s “wagu” strip was cbetween rare and med -rare. Given how difficult it was to get simple refills, I was not about to send anything back. My wife and I I just swapped our steaks and also shared as we kept quizzing each other “is this really as bad as it seems to be”….we were both forcing ourselves into denial because we wanted so badly for this place to at least rank closely to Bobs Chop House …..at this point I would have settle for Ruth Chris quality. When the check arrived I then thought, could this at least explain the lackluster service - as I saw a 30% gratuity that is included regardless of party size. Needless to say, I was NOT compelled to offer even a nickel of additional gratuity. Just when I thought I faced the last of the disappointments, I made the mistake of visiting the men’s restroom before leaving……and the general theme continued, predictably the bathroom also DID NOT align with what one would hope to see…..it was nothing short of lip stick on a pig. There were several things in disrepair like a gas station style toilet seat cover dispenser hanging by only one screw (yes one of those paper seat cover dispensers found at all interstate truck stops)……after washing my hands I began a search for a towel or even paper towels (which are usually on the sink counter in a decent bathroom) - then I see one of those metal wall inserts that has paper towels in the top and a trash can in the bottom just like every luxurious Cracker Barrel bathroom from here to Miami FL… With all of this said, this place has the potential to be one of the best steak houses in the area, but they seem to really struggle in the last 20% or so of its execution - as my dad would always say, you’ve already swallowed the elephant and now you’re allowing yourself to choke on the gnat. I really hope Michael Jordan doesn’t know his brand is associated with such low standards…..and with that I have hope this place might still become...
