Listen to me, there are thousands of places to eat in Chicago, just don't choose this one. I came in with my family and it was obvious that if you were not part of the "regulars" then you really weren't welcome. The manager immediately saw that we had children and began to campaign that the environment wasn't good for kids. First he said it was because of the cooling mist that sprays occasional to keep it's patrons cool, then he said it was because the music was too loud. It felt like he was discriminating against the kids because if they ate there he wouldn't look cool in front of his friends. Mind you we didn't even complain about a thing and were really just excited to sit down and eat on the rooftop which provides a nice view. It was 8:00 in the evening and the sign out front clearly said "family dining." The manager also did not want us to sit in a premium seating area with a view and kept trying to stick us in a dark corner away from everybody without a view. I walked away from the table to store our stroller and he immediately began to work on my wife, telling her that it was a bad enviornment for our kids and kept trying to get her to move tables. My wife stood fast regardless of the hostile situation. We then ordered our food. Kids behaved fine and food was good. Server was great and the rest of the visit went off without a hitch, minus the fact that I could see the manager arguing his point with all the servers and a bar patron. He also kept playing with the music volume as if to prove a point that it was too loud and we were bad parents. The manager clearly needs to educate himself on various lifestyles and behaviors of family's. We are a family that does everything together. Sometimes we choose a loud restaurant and sometimes we don't. Who cares? It's not like the music was vulgar or crowd was dressed inappropriately. It was just a normal loud restaurant with a taste of a bar feel to it. Our kids were fine. My advice to the manger is chill! Not all kids are little monsters that are gonna ruin your "tough guy, wise guy" Personna. When a family walks in welcome them, or better yet just remove the "family dining" from your sign. I am a 17 year veteran Police Officer and we race stock cars as a family on the weekends. My point is that my family has many life experiences and are not sheltered. It is insulting that the manger treated me and my wife as if we needed to be quoranteed to the corner of the Room. This may not be a fair thing to say but i'd hate to see what this guy does when someone comes in with a handicap...
Read moreI think this place is cool. I went on Cinco De Mayo. You would have thought that maybe they would have some type of special because of cinco de mayo, but they didn't, which was fine because the place just opened. I've been to this location when they were Plymouth Bar and grill. It's kinda different now because before you enter the building, it's a gang of migrants outside the location just hanging out. Once seated, which was right a way, I ordered the steak nachos. My friend ordered the tacos. I was sold by the waiter to get the nachos because it was everyone's favorite, plus it was really "loaded" (her words). As we waited, I've realized people had chips and salsa. I asked our waiter if chips and salsa came with the table, and she said yes and went to grab some. She even gave us complimentary guac for the wait.My friend got her food first, and mine came about 20 minutes after... She was already done eating. When my food arrived, "loaded" wasn't the case for my nachos. If anything, I had more cheese and chips than actual meat. Steak nachos here is 20 dollars. I got the waiter again and told her my nachos weren't as loaded as I thought they would be. She agreed and asked if I wanted more meat. As I waited another 15 minutes for that, i saw other people nachos coming out that were pretty "loaded." After finally getting the extra meat, I was able to dig in. The meat it's self don't have any flavor, but once you add the guac salsa etc etc, it's fine. The drinks were really, really good. I got a frozen margarita. When we asked for the check we asked for separate but then the waiter goes on and say "do you want to split the chips and salsa as well" I asked again " do it come with the table" she said no...me and my friend just started to laugh historically because we both heard me asked her if they came with the table before and she said yes but now she's saying no. We didn't argue about it. We just paid it, but we thought that was very unprofessional because, did she not fully listen to my question the first time? What if we couldn't afford the chips and salsa that were nearly 10 dollars? Moving forward, I'll come back for drinks and try the wings, but I'm not in a rush...
Read moreWent to Plymouth last night after reading great reviews and some not great reviews. I think most people only take time to leave negative reviews and not positive ones, myself included normally but not this time. We eat out often and frequent higher end restaurants and border line hole in the walls, Plymouth is neither. It's an awesome casual restaurant with huge portions and excellent prices, especially for Chicago. We went around 10 p.m. on a Friday night and got seated at the rooftop bar immediately. It was a very nice casual setting with people enjoying food and adult beverages but nobody was hammered or annoying.
Our server did a great job, she took good care of us, probably because she's from Ohio (Go Bucks!) We ordered the chips and dips as well as the onion petals for an appetizer. Our server brought out a giant basket of house made chips (equal to 4 baskets that you would get at an average Mexican restaurant) 2 kinds of fresh salsa, a fresh guac and a sour cream. The hotter salsa (it's not real hot) was hands down the best but the mild and guac were excellent as well. We mixed the two salsa's together after we got about halfway through with them, try it, it's really good. The onion petals were easily the best I have had and the same goes for the dipping sauce for them. The petals came out in a huge bowl, the portion was easily equal to a blooming onion if not bigger.
I got the California club on a pretzel bun and my wife got the shish kabob chicken sandwich. Our server brought our dinners out with perfect timing, right after we threw the towel in on trying to finish the appetizers (2 appetizers are too much for 2 people, they are huge). My sandwich was huge and very good, my wife enjoyed hers as well. We both got the waffle fries which were very good and I'm not a huge fan of fries.
We both got a soft drink and our total bill came to $34 which is more than reasonable, I thought it would have been north of $50. I think you would be hard pressed to find a better meal with a better atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping in, you won't be...
