I know what you are thinking - this sounds like a healthy restaurant and why get this when I can get Italian beef sandwiches or deep dish pizza? I’ll tell you why you get this. Because it is delicious. Absolutely delicious. I grabbed their sweet potato falafel bowl. This amazing bowl was on a bed of quinoa, topped with everything: hummus, feta, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, sweet potato falafel balls, mixed greens, spicy tahini vinaigrette, red cabbage slaw, and cilantro. I customized it to have riced cauliflower and turkey bacon as well. I then added a healthy dose of sriracha. My goodness when I bit into that, I was absolutely blown away by the flavor bomb I was hit with. Everything went together perfectly. I had the sweet, crispy balls of sweet potato paired with the acidic tomatoes and vinaigrette, the crunchy bacon, the thick and creamy hummus, the tangy feta, and the crunchy greens, slaw, onions, cucumbers, and cauliflower. Not to mention that I also had a nice spicy sriracha on top. This meal was amazing, but I can’t deny that it was not expensive. It was ~$15 for my meal, but boy was it filling. Highly recommend this place, especially for a lunch option so that you don’t feel sluggish afterwards and that way you can “splurge” on some calories at night in the...
Read moreFabulous environment and food! I stopped in during spring break week while in the area at 'Harold Washington College' which sits on the other side of N. State St. I took several minutes looking at their huge menu on the wall which consisted of a variety of vegetarian foods. That prompted me to question the employee at the register on what he recommends trying. I believe his name is Kenny, but my receipt says Carlos. Kenny recommended the 'Black Bean Bowl' because of what it had in it and also what I had the taste for.
I visited this location 10 minutes until close and the employees did not have a problem with me staying until I finished which allowed me to relax and enjoy my bowl. For the employees recommendation, I'am not only a fan of Protein Bar & Kitchen, but also a fan of the 'Black Bean Bowl' and will most definitely stop in again for another round while at my college campus. As for this location it deserves nothing less than five stars because of its location in the tourist & Chicagoan heavy Chicago loop, and also the employees...
Read moreI eat at protein bar 3-4 times/week. Lucky for me I have another location closer to my office which cooks the food perfectly (merchandise mart). I just happened to return to the lake street location (that will never happen again) today after dropping off a deposit @ chase. The manager/owner should be ASHAMED allowing those kids to serve the food the way they do. This is by far the WORST protein bar in the City of Chicago. My spinach and pesto was a bowl of mush and sadly...this seems to be the standard at this location. It is exactly why i have not been to the lake street protein bar in almost 6 months (surprise surprise...nothing has changed). The chicken is always overcooked (the chicken is hard like a rock and disgusting) & they can’t even get the quinoa right anymore. It was made with too much water.
Considering these 2 items are primary ingredients in most of what they sell….do us all a favor and close the doors on this location till there is some sort of consistency other that overcooked food. (you seem to have...
