I was really excited when I heard an authentic Jewish Deli was opening near my neighborhood in Chicago! Much of my extended family is from NYC and they love to remind me that there are no good Jewish delis in Chicago (unless you go way out to the suburbs.) I can confidently say that is no longer the case!! Schneider Deli is fantastic. Where do I even begin? The owner, Jake, is awesome. He's down to earth, a great host, and you can tell he absolutely loves his craft. We chatted for a bit and I learned that he's been a professional chef for many years but it has always been his dream to open a Jewish Deli in Chicago.
The place is really cute inside, and I loved the soda shoppe feel. The food is SO GOOD. Like, mouth wateringly-good. The half sour pickles are probably the best I've ever had and I am waiting for the day I can buy them in bulk. I ordered the health salad and the corned beef sandwich. (I love that they have traditional deli items as well as some new dishes!) The salad was delicious and the corned beef was so good I hardly had to put any mustard on it. And the Metropolis cold brew on tap was the absolute cherry on top.
This is the place I will be taking my family when they're in town to let them know that Chicago is now holding its own in the Jewish deli game! Schneider Deli is a well-run homegrown small business that delivers not only on super tasty food but also offers a warm, welcoming environment that makes you feel like you're a VIP regular even...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to try this place for a while now, and I’m so glad I finally did! We started with the corned beef hash and the bagel and lox, which we enjoyed right there in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. We also grabbed a pastrami sandwich to go. Let me tell you, everything was fantastic!
The pastrami sandwich was amazing—the meat was tender and full of rich, smoky flavor. It was definitely worth the wait in line. The bagel and lox were also spot on. The bagel was soft and chewy, the lox was fresh, and everything came together so well—it was a perfect pairing.
But for me, the real standout was the corned beef hash. It had the perfect balance of crispy edges, salty goodness, and just the right amount of fattiness. Every bite was packed with tender chunks of corned beef, and I couldn’t get enough of it. It was one of the best hashes I’ve ever had!
The staff was also super friendly, which made the experience even better. Even though there was a line out the door the whole time we were there, the service was quick and welcoming. It’s no wonder this place is so popular!
We’ll definitely be back for more. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this spot—you...
Read moreFirst time visiting Chicago, we were determined to try different types of Chicago food in the area. Luckily, we stayed at Ohio House where Schneider Deli was located so of course we had to try. OMG!! Their pastrami sandwich was the best I've ever had, hands down. My husband and I liked it so much we went back the next day for another sandwich. I've been a fan of pastrami for forever now but after tasting theirs, it made me question if I had ever had really tasted pastrami. It literally melted in my mouth. It was so tender and juicy, unlike anything I've ever had before. It actually reminded me of corn beef the way it just flaked...Amazing! There were so many delicious sounding options on the menu that when we come back to visit next year, will definitely be stopping here again. The place is a bit small but didn't have a problem getting a table after a few minutes. Now the coffee gets an honorable mention. We stopped at several other places for coffee during our trip and we found Schneider also had the best coffee. Even compared to specialty coffee. Will...
