If you're black, do not waste your time here or even attempt to give them your money. The black bouncers at the door will look at you up and down and make up some dress code rule that you're not following, all while letting every white person who is dressed exactly like you get in.
Racist establishment limits black people.
We tried going there last night (two black males). We get to the front, security stares us up and down, and then after about 10 seconds, tells us it's business casual only. I had on some green pants, sweatshirt hoodie, blue Reebok sneakers. My friend was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt and light winter jacket.
No big deal. We decide to go somewhere else. As we look at the people inside while we walk past, lots of people dressed exactly like us. No big deal. Decide to go somewhere else (check out the Bassment..it was a great place).
After the Bassment, we decide to give this place another shot thinking they'll let us in the second time around.
We get there and it's the same story. I ask the guy why is he doing this to us. We're just trying to go in like everyone else, etc. He ignores us. Throughout this time, multiple people dressed in sneakers, hoodies, and jeans are allowed in and this is when I lose my cool.
We go to another place and have a good time and I decide to have one last word with these guys before I leave.
One of the original bouncers is there with a new one. He proceeds to apologize. I tell him how wrong it is for them, two black men, to deny entry to two other black men.
You know what this guy told me?
"If we let in a bunch of black people in here, what do you think will happen?"
I couldn't believe my ears and it all made sense. I asked him to answer his own question and he refused to.
Tldr: if you're black, they will find a way to not let you in. They have a quota for the number of black people...
Read moreThis is a review for one of the bouncers, Ben. He deserves a raise/promotion! I witnessed a very scary situation when, visiting the Boss Bar a little after 10:00pm on Thursday, June 2nd 2022 with my mom for a nightcap before heading back to my hotel and Ben handled it so perfectly!
We were sitting outside enjoying drinks when a man (late 50s) and his wife stood up from a table near us to leave and a handgun fell out of the man's pocket. Thankfully it did not disarm, but if it had, it was pointed directly at my right ankle!!! Both he and his wife were very flustered and the man attempted to play it off like nothing happened, put it back in his pants, and scurried away.
One of the bouncers (Ben) ran after the man and his wife and spent quite a long time around the corner where I couldn't see what was going on. Ben eventually came back and when he did, I thanked him for acting so quickly and bravely by following the man and his wife around the corner. The man had a gun, the bouncer was unarmed, and had NO idea how the man would have reacted to Ben confronting him.
Ben told me the man did have papers to carry, but that carrying within 300 feet of an institution that serves alcohol in Chicago is illegal and Ben got the man's information and permit number (he kept in confidential of course and did not disclose anything to me) and reported the man for the incident.
Given the times we are in, irresponsible gun ownership is truly unforgivable in my opinion and I appreciate Ben's bravery in chasing the man down.
Thank you , Ben, and thank you, Boss Bar, for hiring bouncers that are there to empowered to do more than...
Read moreIf you are Black or African American this bar is not for you. I went to this bar last week with a group of 4 friends. I was racially profiled and bullied by the bar tender (blonde Russian or Polish woman). A friend was paying for the drinks. Apparently my drink was not paid for and I did not know. I stepped outside waiting for an uber. I was told to come back in and pay for my drink. I went to the bar tender, gave her my card, she swipes my card, LIES and tells me that it declined. I ask her to swipe the card again. She refuses to and tells me in order to get my card back i need to give her $10.00 for my drink. I thought it was unusual that my card declined because I know my accounts. She refuses to give me MY card so that i can go to the ATM which is 5 feet away from the actual bar. She then proceeds to put MY card in her back pocket as if to taunt and get a rise out of me. I thought it was COMPLETELY out of line for the bar tender to hold on to my card and NOT allow me to go to the ATM to take the money out. I end up stepping out of my character to go off on this bar tender. She calls security over and I tell security the problem. Security immediately asks the bar tender to hand over MY card, he leads me to the ATM so that I can make my transaction at the ATM. Card works at the ATM, I immediately remove the money pay for my drink and leave. I felt bullied and abused. I still feel angered by that night. Will NEVER give this establishment ANY business. Overall the establishment is okay. Alcoholic drinks are watered down and the furniture can be...
