Very tasty, but too pricey. We had an early dinner at 4 on a Sunday and the place was absolutely empty! The staff were scrambling around to prepare for the later dinner rush. Perfectly fine if you're looking for a quiet time.
We had the NY strip steak, lobster mac and cheese, lobster bisque (can you tell I like seafood?), and the assorted dinner rolls. Pictures of all of these things have been posted. The steak was very juicy and flavorful, though slightly overcooked. I'd been looking forward to the lobster truffle mac and cheese after all the reviews here, but it honestly was not anything to write home about; it tasted good but was not worth the price tag and I expected to taste more of the lobster incorporated in the dish, not just in chunks. They're a silly detail, but I loved the onion dinner rolls; they were served warm and had extra onion and poppyseeds inside. The highlight of our meal was the soup of the day, the lobster bisque; it was that sort of close-your-eyes-and-savor-it kind of good. A little salty, but the texture and flavor were phenomenal, and the lobster garnish on top was also excellent.
With the prices and ingredients (and implied dress code that we admittedly did not meet very well; I had on a vintage Blackhawks sweater, not anything dressy), the music felt out of place: Ben Folds, Matt & Kim, Grouplove... Too hip/trendy for the muted red/brown decor and all waitstaff in ties. Perhaps there is a different soundtrack later in the evening?
I'd go back just for that lobster bisque, but all else can be found in comparable quality across the city with more...
Read moreI read the reviews online and made my reservation before seeing Hamilton. My reservation was complete with my remarks we were seeing Hamilton. The restaurant atmosphere was lovely and the food was divine. Our reservation was for 5:45 and we were promptly seated on time. I expected to be in there easily an hour. I thought we'd have enough time to get outside and take a few pictures before we got in line for the show. I read this elsewhere and I have to agree, it was a little too slow. The waiter was fantastic and kind but I didn't think our dessert would ever get to us. Of course you want to be seated in the theater in plenty of time to freshen up, use the restroom, whatever... before you get your seats. Dessert finally arrived at 7:00 p.m. and we had to eat fast even though the theater was across the street so we could get in line and get settled. We didn't get into our seats until 7:20. If the service was't quite so slow, I would easily give 5 stars and two thumbs up but it just shouldn't take 20 min. to get dessert and then not have the time to enjoy it. I would definitely go back but arrange my time better so I...
Read moreReservations are a must and I highly recommend going in no later than 530 if you want a more calmer vibe.
This place is more "upscale" than "high end" and it fits perfectly in that mold. We're in Chicago, we're across from the CIBC theater, it's not going to be amazing but it's going to be great.
We arrived at 5 for our 515 reservation and they sat us immediately, the place was Stonegate empty and it was nice. The server was great but I could tell by 6-630, the place absolutely filled up and so the server wasn't as around toward the later half of our meal so our next order of drinks took a bit longer to get to us (unsure if the waiter or if it's the bartender being backed up).
Our steaks were all cooked perfectly, the lobster was also perfect.
Dessert is exactly what I expected for this kind of restaurant - nothing fancy, the usual - floyrless chocolate cake, cheesecake, sorbet, tres leches cake, etc.
It was a good time and as long as you go in expecting more of a "upscale hotel restaurant" vibe and not a "5 star high end" vibe, you won't be disappointed! But the dinner rush at 6 or so can get...
