It's kind of an awkward restaurant. We were unsure if we could seat ourselves or if we should wait to be seated, so we asked the person out front and she gave us two menus and told us to sit where we would like.
The music was really loud when we first got there, but then it was lowered to a reasonable leave without having to ask. The atmosphere was fun with lots of colorful lights.
The waitress was nice and took our order. We got their amore nachos and enchiladas with water to drink.
Price wise, the food is slightly more expensive than a taco truck, by a dollar or two. The food is visually appealing, and the food was seasoned perfectly. I got their nachos, and you can tell they make their own chips in house, but not all the chips were cooked all the way, so I got some half cooked chips that are hard to eat. My wife got the enchiladas, and It came with rice and whole pito beans. The beans were not fully cooked but were seasoned well. The rice was soggy, but my wife liked them. The enchiladas were great, but they piled on the lettuce and cotija cheese, so it took away from the enchiladas. After taking off all the toppings, it was really good.
I decided to get some horchata when we went to pay, and it was great. They really do kill it on the flavor. Sadly, they did not strain it, so it was real chunky towards the end of the drink, so that want great.
If you are not a texture person, the issues I have may not be an issue for you. I will say, we do plan to go back and try some different things, and to give them...
Read moreMy partner and I absolutely loved the decor here. We took a 2 seater tucked away near the back, with a floral backdrop, and it was so cozy and sweet! The food servers were extremely friendly, and we had a lovely experience from start to finish.
We ordered chips and salsa, guacamole, veggie tacos with their handmade tortillas, and a side of rice and beans. Everything was extremely tasty, and while the tacos are $3 each, they're large tacos! After I saw the taco size the price made complete sense, and again, everything was delicious.
Some of the negative reviews I saw before we ate here mentioned that the food was lacking salt/flavor, and a couple mentioned that this wasn't authentic Mexican food. The notes about lack of salt I honestly found promising, because so many places in Chico seem to only have salt as their main food flavor, and that doesn't do it for me. I could taste the salt in this food but it was enhancing the flavor, not overwhelming it, and that's in keeping with my preferences. As for the food not being authentic, I don't know what those folks think authentic Mexican food needs to be if they don't think this is it. I've had a ton of homemade Mexican food over the years, and maybe they didn't have nopales on the table here, but the meal was overall in keeping with my expectations of authentic/homemade Mexican fare.
I highly recommend checking the place out. My partner and I will...
Read moreI wish new restaurants offered an opportunity to give feedback directly to the business, especially in Chico where there is so much competition. New businesses have a limited opportunity to make an excellent first impression. After visiting this weekend, here are the tips I would like to share with this business to set them up for success: Put up a sign welcoming customers and ask them to seat themselves. We had to ask one of the employees behind the counter. If you take orders at the table and deliver food to the table, then silverware should also be at the table. Be prepared to answer questions from customers who have dietary restrictions or food allergies. When we asked about gluten, our server was not able to answer whether or not the corn tortillas contained gluten. The TV volume was so loud we had a hard time hearing one another across the table. Any music should be more of a background for the...
