For cleanliness of rooms and how they are equipped, location, free and easy, safe parking, and friendliness of staff, I would give this hotel a 5. For rooms being up-to-date, the room itself has what you need—clean, comfortable beds; coffee maker; good tv; microwave; refrigerator; full-length mirror; iron, ironing board, easily adjustable modern thermostat (big plus for me); a nice glass shower stall that is clean, works easily, and has plenty of hot water. Showers include shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Otherwise, no art was on the walls, but some small pictures of the local famous ponies were propped up behind the desk area. Carpeting was decent and matched the little pictures. So appearance of my room was fine, just not the most modern that I’ve experienced. Outside is a small, nice pool that was attended to daily, and the view of the water, potted palms, seagulls, and duck families is gorgeous. There are tables with umbrellas where you can at your leisure enjoy eating al fresco. My lone complaint is that I came here to relax, read, and write. I got sold by the online photo of balconies looking out to the calm water. My Travelocity-purchased room did not come with a balcony; and I was told that I could not pay and upgrade through the hotel for a balcony room. I also could not read or write easily from the terrace outside because piped in jaunty, beach music is playing all the time, and sometimes there was dueling music between the hotel and the next door Ropewalk Restaurant. The ‘business center ‘ is in the lobby right across from the front desk with little equipment and no way to close yourself off. So, overall, I would give this hotel a 4+. Just come here to have fun, eat lots of good seafood at local restaurants (the hotel provides a free breakfast, but has no restaurant), and do not plan to do any work.

This hotel is fantastic. The staff is awesome. Sunday breakfast was busy, and the front of the house staff jumped in to help. The breakfast was wonderful. They had a wide variety of items available: DIY waffles, hot oatmeal, scrambled eggs, pork sausage, biscuit and gravy (delicious), variety of breads, and hard-boiled eggs. The staff kept the breakfast area neat and clean. The food items were filled regularly. The breakfast area looks out over the water. The rooms are recently upgraded. Our room was an ADA room on the first floor. We had a balcony with 2 comfortable chairs. The room has a mini refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. There is an outdoor pool. We visited during early May, so the pool was closed. There are several restaurants within an easy walk, from .1 mile to 1 mile. The hotel is in the downtown area. There are lots of restaurants within 1.5 miles. Most of the restaurants have seafood. There is a Subway and McDonald's as well. There is a local ice cream spot - Island Creamery. This is a spot not to miss. Be sure to drive around the town and enjoy the beautiful older homes.

My family of 4 stayed here last month and we were very pleased with this hotel. It's very clean, modern, and right on the water. We loved the large bathroom and there was plenty of space for luggage. My girls really enjoyed being on the water and they loved eating breakfast outside on the deck by the pool and watching all the laughing gulls fly by. The sun set right over the pool and there is a little boardwalk around the building we liked to walk around every night. I was impressed with how clean they kept the area, especially from the bird poop since there are tons of gulls flying around. We had one minor issue with our stay and the hotel manager truly stepped up and provided excellent customer service to us. You can tell this particular hotel is managed extremely well with customer service as their top priority. Really cannot recommend this hotel enough!

We are platinum members and unfortunately used two NUA for our two night stay. (use them or lose them situation basically). |We booked a 2 qu std room - no view (or balcony) so while we felt we'd likely get an upgrade based on our status we went ahead and used them to secure the best room available.|Upon check in the clerk never mentioned our status but indirectly acknowledged them by asking if we wanted points or an amenity from pantry as our welcome gift. We choose the latter. She said you can pick now or later -but let me know so I can adjust the inventory. Fair.|I asked her since she did not mention ... if there were any upgrades available to us as platinum even though we had been given the two queens w/ a partial view. |She said - no, we were already in the best room available. |Well - we weren't - there were many rooms facing the water - our room was facing the noisy pool and restaurant. But it had a balcony and a "partial" view and we were tired so just got settled in.|After going out for dinner we decided to get our amenity from the pantry. We waited in line and told her - we picked our item - she scanned it and thanked us. (same clerk)|At check out a different said there was no bill and thanked us for our stay. I saw the manager was on duty so decided to ask her about the room selection. She informed me that those water facing rooms were "suites". I asked why weren't upgraded to one based on status - she couldn't answer but said she would refund some points. While grateful for a few points back - a bit disappointed that the original clerk was less than honest. |After getting home I saw the invoice and could NOT believe that the same clerk actually charged us for our amenity! OYE! Thankfully, I had grabbed Rachel (mgr) business card and emailed her. She promptly refunded my card and thanked me for bringing to her attention. No apologies. |The good was the place is well kept and location is good - you can walk to a few shops and restaurants and its on the water. |The breakfast is kept up well - almost to the point where the staff is in your way! lol Each morning we had 3 egg choices and one meat selection - would prefer two and two but for two mornings - nbd. |We sat on the patio overlooking pool and water and saw dolphins swim by. |Value wise - not the best deal to be had for a midrange bonvoy product but we used a FNA that was expiring!|Check out the Refuge inn - it looked lovely and right...

I had a late check-in since I was driving from my regular shift to support a test the following day at Wallops Island. The check-in staff person was courteous. When I opened the door to my room it had a strong smell of body odor, perhaps from the previous occupant? Considering it was after midnight, there should have been plenty of time to get the room ready. I tried running the air conditioning to help and found that the thermostat is restricted such that it cannot be set below 68 degrees. I tried calling the front desk, and the representative walked me through how to use the thermostat to make sure I was doing it correctly, and then stated that they remembered hearing something about the lower temperature restriction. I prefer to sleep with the a/c set to 65 degrees, and the 3 degrees makes a real difference. The representative offered to let me switch to a balcony room, but I had already unpacked and wanted to sleep since I needed to get up at 6. If only it was that simple! It seems like there is some sort of central fan which runs continuously throughout the night. I thought it was coming from the bathroom, but after closing that door it also seemed to be coming from the vent above the closet. I am a light sleeper, and this was very disturbing. The following morning, I took a shower. The mirror immediately fogged up, as there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom. This made shaving afterwards a challenge. The shower head is in disrepair: you can choose from power wash or pathetic trickle (I took a video if you'd like to see the "options"). I thought it strange that the trash cans in the room and bathroom were not lined with plastic bags. Perhaps this is an attempt to save on trash, but I imagine this also makes the room more dirty. The hot breakfast was satisfactory, though nothing that you wouldn't find at a motel for half the price. This would be a relatively simple way to differentiate a Marriot from Motel 8. Check-out was quick. I would have taken the time to share my thoughts with the person working the front desk in the morning, but they didn't ask me how my stay was (odd), but just said "You are all set!". Maybe some...

I have been very fortunate to stay at many Marriott's in my travels. So for this weekend trip I had high hopes, unfortunately they just became hoping it would get better. Understandable with Pandemic businesses having been doing their best to accommodate guests. Ill give them 4 stars for being safe and working with the governor's rules.. But in general the rooms were ok. We had a king bed with a bay view, the view was pretty but I don’t believe the room was worth the amount we paid. We notice when we walked in the bed sheet wasn’t even on properly, there was mold on shower doors, a random substance on couch.. we used our imagination and stayed clear. Then again walking into the bathroom the toilet paper was thin as tissue paper, we had to go out and buy ourselves our own. The walls are paper thin, we could hear everything...adult activities, all conversations from our neighbors beside and above us. You could hear the upstairs neighbor walking above you; hoping for other guests we just had someone above us who walked heavy. Our last day we tried to use the heated pool the front desk said we could use, saw it was in for maintenance got frustrated and left after multiple disappointments; we bought swim suits after we were told it was open. To be quite honest my husband and I probably wouldn’t stay here again if we came to visit, we’d try a hotel next door. After countless questioning on things we experienced the one that took the cake was I was walking out to dinner I mentioned something to the front about information we either misheard or was told differently when we arrived and it became immediate gossip. While I stood their waiting for the front girl who walked away from me; I overheard her repeat the information that was misconstrued , working in the service industry I was a bit appalled how the situation was handled. Again I was appreciative of the Covid-19 rules and regulations followed, the front desk girl Laney was wonderful but the rest of the experience was not...
