We are platinum members and unfortunately used two NUA for our two night stay. (use them or lose them situation basically). |We booked a 2 qu std room - no view (or balcony) so while we felt we'd likely get an upgrade based on our status we went ahead and used them to secure the best room available.|Upon check in the clerk never mentioned our status but indirectly acknowledged them by asking if we wanted points or an amenity from pantry as our welcome gift. We choose the latter. She said you can pick now or later -but let me know so I can adjust the inventory. Fair.|I asked her since she did not mention ... if there were any upgrades available to us as platinum even though we had been given the two queens w/ a partial view. |She said - no, we were already in the best room available. |Well - we weren't - there were many rooms facing the water - our room was facing the noisy pool and restaurant. But it had a balcony and a "partial" view and we were tired so just got settled in.|After going out for dinner we decided to get our amenity from the pantry. We waited in line and told her - we picked our item - she scanned it and thanked us. (same clerk)|At check out a different said there was no bill and thanked us for our stay. I saw the manager was on duty so decided to ask her about the room selection. She informed me that those water facing rooms were "suites". I asked why weren't upgraded to one based on status - she couldn't answer but said she would refund some points. While grateful for a few points back - a bit disappointed that the original clerk was less than honest. |After getting home I saw the invoice and could NOT believe that the same clerk actually charged us for our amenity! OYE! Thankfully, I had grabbed Rachel (mgr) business card and emailed her. She promptly refunded my card and thanked me for bringing to her attention. No apologies. |The good was the place is well kept and location is good - you can walk to a few shops and restaurants and its on the water. |The breakfast is kept up well - almost to the point where the staff is in your way! lol Each morning we had 3 egg choices and one meat selection - would prefer two and two but for two mornings - nbd. |We sat on the patio overlooking pool and water and saw dolphins swim by. |Value wise - not the best deal to be had for a midrange bonvoy product but we used a FNA that was expiring!|Check out the Refuge inn - it looked lovely and right...
Read moreI had a late check-in since I was driving from my regular shift to support a test the following day at Wallops Island. The check-in staff person was courteous. When I opened the door to my room it had a strong smell of body odor, perhaps from the previous occupant? Considering it was after midnight, there should have been plenty of time to get the room ready. I tried running the air conditioning to help and found that the thermostat is restricted such that it cannot be set below 68 degrees. I tried calling the front desk, and the representative walked me through how to use the thermostat to make sure I was doing it correctly, and then stated that they remembered hearing something about the lower temperature restriction. I prefer to sleep with the a/c set to 65 degrees, and the 3 degrees makes a real difference. The representative offered to let me switch to a balcony room, but I had already unpacked and wanted to sleep since I needed to get up at 6. If only it was that simple! It seems like there is some sort of central fan which runs continuously throughout the night. I thought it was coming from the bathroom, but after closing that door it also seemed to be coming from the vent above the closet. I am a light sleeper, and this was very disturbing. The following morning, I took a shower. The mirror immediately fogged up, as there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom. This made shaving afterwards a challenge. The shower head is in disrepair: you can choose from power wash or pathetic trickle (I took a video if you'd like to see the "options"). I thought it strange that the trash cans in the room and bathroom were not lined with plastic bags. Perhaps this is an attempt to save on trash, but I imagine this also makes the room more dirty. The hot breakfast was satisfactory, though nothing that you wouldn't find at a motel for half the price. This would be a relatively simple way to differentiate a Marriot from Motel 8. Check-out was quick. I would have taken the time to share my thoughts with the person working the front desk in the morning, but they didn't ask me how my stay was (odd), but just said "You are all set!". Maybe some...
Read moreI have been very fortunate to stay at many Marriott's in my travels. So for this weekend trip I had high hopes, unfortunately they just became hoping it would get better. Understandable with Pandemic businesses having been doing their best to accommodate guests. Ill give them 4 stars for being safe and working with the governor's rules.. But in general the rooms were ok. We had a king bed with a bay view, the view was pretty but I don’t believe the room was worth the amount we paid. We notice when we walked in the bed sheet wasn’t even on properly, there was mold on shower doors, a random substance on couch.. we used our imagination and stayed clear. Then again walking into the bathroom the toilet paper was thin as tissue paper, we had to go out and buy ourselves our own. The walls are paper thin, we could hear everything...adult activities, all conversations from our neighbors beside and above us. You could hear the upstairs neighbor walking above you; hoping for other guests we just had someone above us who walked heavy. Our last day we tried to use the heated pool the front desk said we could use, saw it was in for maintenance got frustrated and left after multiple disappointments; we bought swim suits after we were told it was open. To be quite honest my husband and I probably wouldn’t stay here again if we came to visit, we’d try a hotel next door. After countless questioning on things we experienced the one that took the cake was I was walking out to dinner I mentioned something to the front about information we either misheard or was told differently when we arrived and it became immediate gossip. While I stood their waiting for the front girl who walked away from me; I overheard her repeat the information that was misconstrued , working in the service industry I was a bit appalled how the situation was handled. Again I was appreciative of the Covid-19 rules and regulations followed, the front desk girl Laney was wonderful but the rest of the experience was not...
