We read the reviews before going here and we're excited at the prospect of enjoying Vietnamese food here in Chincoteague. We entered this dimly lit room and were somewhat startled by the loud greeting by what appeared to be the owner. We felt somewhat hastened to order and when we did -the food was on our table in what seemed like 5 minutes or less. The pan fried shrimp and broccoli was not fried but boiled or smothered. The sauce tasted a little like peanut sauce, but mostly of white sugar. The situation was uncomfortable, for me, by the glaring stare from the, presumable, owner, trying to determine if we bought into this mock meal or was enjoying it. There was no atmosphere...no soft Asian music whispering softly in the background; nothing notable on the walls or table to reflect the culture - however there seemed to be a familiar following as I witnessed visitors coming in and being greeted by name. My husband and I are well-traveled and have eaten authentically well-prepared food all around the world - and very often in neighborhood ethnic restaurants here in the states. The meal we ate here was an extreme...
Read moreRefused carryout service for our family until 8pm as per their schedule and it was only 6:30pm. The dining room was not busy at the time. I asked for an exception for our special needs son, who cannot handle being in the restaurant dining room, and they said no. The young lady in the dining room said they "might" get busy so they won't take our order. Our son Eryk is unable to handle the noises in the dining room and it is unfortunate that the "Chef" decided our family unworthy of an exception. When eating out, Eryk's food allergies limit what he can eat and Vietnamese is one of the few types that work for him. Our whole family is vegan so there was no other option on the island. Very few people step up and help those with special needs and Saigon Village was not at all helpful.
We found a restaurant in Pokemoke called Lin's Vietnamese Restaurant, 27 minutes away, that was happy to take our order and is in every way better. I have not had an opportunity to taste Saigon Village's food because we were refused service on our...
Read moreFirst, the posted hours are not accurate. Not exactly sure when they’re supposed to be open but it certainly doesn’t seem like they follow these hours. Second, once we were able to order the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the combination BBQ over rice, and while the chicken and pork had a good flavor they gave me 1 piece of shrimp. For $21 plus tax they could’ve at least thrown in a few extra pieces of shrimp, given the rest of the dish is 30 cents worth of rice (that desperately needed sauce) and another 30 cents worth of vegetables (with semi-brown lettuce). My wife got the kids portioned chicken fried rice, which is a portion far beyond the amount any kid could consume, was extremely dry and lacked any flavor beyond plain soy sauce. The spring rolls were decent. Overall, I’m not sure I’d recommend this place given the somewhat...
