I have to give a star to give a review. If I could I'd give no stars at all. So I've been curious to try these desserts. I usually see the shop when I'm across the way at the best Sushi place in town "Naruto". Usually this tea cake place is closed, because we go eat sushi after 5 p.m. Today I got there early enough to go inside the shop. I was intrigued and excited to try something new. I walked in and said hello to the lady at the counter. She was very unwelcoming. I asked her what was it that she sold, and she literally pointed at the merchandise with a scowl in her face. I figured maybe she didn't speak fluent English. So then I went on to inform her that it was my first time in her shop. I was curious as to what it was she specializes in. She just pointed at the glass display. I asked her if she had any recommendations being that it was my first time trying the desserts. She said, no, I don't make recommendations. At this point, I went from wanting to try a variety of tea cakes to just buying one that looked pretty. I got two poky packs for my kids and paid. She didn't want my business and I was very polite and curious. Not any more. I don't recommend this place one bit. I'm not returning to purchase anything from here again. The tea cake was ok. I would have much rather had a variety to try....
Read morethe mochi shop is located inside one of the stores in a small strip mall area. maybe unassuming from the outside, but the display of the variety of mochi that this shop offers shines through the display case. there was less variety when I came in during mid afternoon time. while I am one who loves the red and white bean paste mochi offerings, the store also offers a good variety of flavored, fruity, and even cheesecake mochi. the lady helping me out told me that most of the mochi options are vegan except for the butter mochi, cheesecake mochi, and milky mochis. I love that she got excited about me asking about whether the red bean pace was tsubuan (chunky) or koshian (smooth). for reference, it seems that the red bean paste mochis use chunky paste, while the white bean paste mochis are smooth paste. my friend and I and my partner loved the mochi we ate. I used to frequent by Osaka-ya in Sacramento for mochi before moving to San Diego, so I’m very happy that this store is here. I'll definitely come back here for more!
(also, I called in previously to ask if they offered sakura mochi for girls day. they do, but I didn't have the time...
Read moreit took me 6 months before I could experience this shop for myself. I saw a post online about this shop and immediately forwarded to my friends locally, so they could check it out before I visited.
cash only, and business owners who are here to help their community as well. their selection is limited during pandemic, so I asked for one of everything they had. and then some ;)
my friend'a favorites are the chewy, milky, and peanut butter.
my favorites? PINEAPPLE MOCHI, I was amazed at how good it was, and both pieces I ate had a little bit of pineapple pulp, perfect. Chewy mochi, firmer, and chewy, with a slight saltiness I craved while trying all their other sweet flavors. Kinako (roasted soybean powder) was filled with the chunky sweet red bean, I liked their smooth red bean but the kinako powder is so tasty. Cute turtle dorayaki was a pancake with red bean filling. And the mochi wrapped in the pancake was also very good!! I had a SURPRISE when I bit into a filled mochi that had white bean filling and a dried apricot! it was sooo good. And finally, their yokan was super tall, def try it if you like red...
