Since April I have been raving to people at work about Tres Leches cake... "what??!! you have never heard of it? you MUST try it!!!"
Given I live in the southwest but going on about this during my work travels to Chicago made for a challenge... particularly given I think I make the best Tres Leches. So, a colleague at work who is a foodie, tired of me talking about Tres Leches turned me on to Aracely's which was not far from our corporate offices.
I went there on my very next trip and walked into this colorful, vibrant with delicious pastries and cookies bakery on a cute little downtown street. I usually don't leave the area of Westchester/Oak Brook when I come to the Chicago area so the little town of LaGrange was a pleasant surprise.
Anyway, it was clear that this was a family operation and everyone working was warm and friendly. I asked if they had any Tres Leches cake and the owner came out and said he would have to make it for me. So I ordered one, for pick up the next morning. I also ordered a variety of amazing cookies to take back to the office and some lunch (Mexican Sandwich) to go. Fast forward to me picking up that cake and getting it back to the office. Saying it was a HIT is an understatement. It was annihilated. I must say, Aracely's did not let me down with this cake. It was fantastic and better than any cake I had made. It lived up to all the hype I had been giving my Chicagoan colleagues about Tres Leches. I will back to this little gem in LaGrange. These ladies who were there ordering tamales, shared that Aracely's makes THE best tamales... I think my sister-in-law does down in New Mexico but I have to give them a...
Read moreCame here today to purchase a “Tres Leches” cake for my father’s birthday. $27 for a small/medium cake seemed kind of steep but anyway I purchased it. Everyone hated the cake including myself. It tasted bitter and spoiled so I immediately called and requested to speak to a supervisor. I was told there wasn’t one available so I did as the person that I spoke to recommended (Bring the cake in) So There I go taking a trip back to the bakery with a spoiled cake smh As soon as my boyfriend and I entered the bakery it took 3 minutes for us to be acknowledged. A “hi we’ll be right with you” would’ve been nice. (The bakery was EMPTY and the workers saw us come in) Anyway one of the workers tasted the cake and agreed that it didn’t taste good. She shrugged her shoulders and said “no esta Bueno” then she whispered something to the other girl.
They tried to give me another cake but I was like NO THANKS I just want my money back .. because how am I gonna know that the 2nd cake won’t be bad either. Point is I got my money back. (Which is good) but ughhh just a sucky experience. I do not recommend to buy tres...
Read moreTheir Mexican bread is ok, but not to go out of your way like Chicago's Best described it. I just ordered a Tres Leches Cake, was very disappointed! One, it was too overpriced, half sheet $69 dollars. Two, decoration looked nothing like the picture, it was the worst cake I have ever bought. It was for my sons 13th Birthday. Three, it was too sweet, bottom inch was bread, middle was really sweet frosting, top layer was another inch of bread and the frosting again on top. You don't make Tres Leches cakes like that, lady claimed it was delicious, no where near! Local Mexican bakery is a hundred times better than this overpriced bakery. Very disappointed with Chicago's Best for airing this bakery. Plus my husband said that the lady who dispatched him when he went to pick it up said it was underpriced, get the f, out of here. It didn't even have the decoration on it. Horrible, never again, save your money, Jewel cakes are a whole lot better, I would not recommend this place to no one, customer service...
