Quite possibly the WORST stuff I have EVER had in my entire life. I cannot even bring myself to call it food as it smelled like canned Skippy Dog food. We travel a lot and like to try the local fair wherever we go. We have had some very unusual foods and combinations over our years and miles of traveling. Some we loved and others, well, not so much. So, with our usual sense of adventure, we boldly went where no Texan should ever go, and I mean EVER. We kept an open mind because we knew from prior experience that the term "chili" can be applied liberally to many different dishes, all of which their creators insist as being "authentic". However, we do come to expect some kind of "chili" to be present in the dish. Just some, any kind, somewhere. We knew it wouldn't have that kick we love here in the South, and that was okay, but what it was was nothing like any kind of "food" any of us had ever had. It was a completely tasteless pile of something that looked a lot like what I used to clean out of the kennels of sick dogs. The grey tinged "spaghetti" only added to the macabre giving the impression of an infestation of round worms. There was no chili taste to it at all. We grimly chewed through about three forkfuls before we all gave up (we were all hungry and were hoping it might improve on us, like I said, we are adventurous). The bright side was that the cheese was a fairly good quality cheddar (not the American processed stuff I actually expected) and it was served with packaged oyster crackers, and those are pretty hard to mess up. Sorry Ohio, but your signature chili spaghetti completely defeated my hungry family, and that is a first in our over 27 years and 50,000 + miles of traveling together. I'm hoping we just came on a bad day...but it's going to take a lot to get me near any kind of chili spaghetti again, adventurous or not, my stomach staged an all out revolt on...
Read moreIconic restaurant, a long time Cincinnati tradition! Delicious food! Fun experience! Finally, after decades of hearing about the famous Skyline Chili, I made it!! My colleagues and I enjoyed a mid afternoon lunch. Our lunch was served fresh, hot and quickly. The service is excellent. Our server was fantastic and very helpful with menu questions, especially since this was a first time visit for all of us. Each of us enjoyed a cheese Coney chili dog. The Coneys are delicious and covered in cheese! If you're not a big fan of cheese, speak up! They can go easy on the cheese, if you prefer. The Coneys are small, I recommend ordering several if hungry. In addition, I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Salad to take back to my hotel for dinner. My salad was also delicious and served with a heaping mountain of cheese. The dining room was very clean and well maintained. The entire operation is very simple and efficient. The menu is very diverse and reasonably priced. Naturally, just as the name implies, chili is a staple here and used in many menu items. I was very impressed with Skyline and I can't wait to return to Cincinnati for another chance to visit this iconic...
Read moreA pilgrimage to Cincinnati isn’t complete without a stop at Skyline Chili, and the historic Ludlow Avenue location is particularly iconic. Housed in a brick, Dutch Colonial–style building, it features a gorgeous old-school tiled “Skyline” sign nodding to Rookwood Pottery. Inside, it feels like stepping into a retro diner: swivel stools, laminate countertops, and friendly chatter around bowls of spaghetti chili.
I opted for the classic “Three-Way”—spaghetti topped with that legendary chili and a mountain of bright yellow cheddar. The chili’s flavor is unmistakable: fragrant cinnamon and warm Mediterranean spices layered over savory ground beef. Stirring it all together yields a cozy, comforting fusion of pasta, melty cheese, and slightly sweet chili sauce. Add oyster crackers and optional hot sauce for texture and bite.
Service is quick yet friendly, with seasoned servers accustomed to busy shifts. And yes, grab a York Peppermint Pattie at the counter before leaving. The combination of rich, tangy chili and cool mint is a charming finale. Skyline Chili delivers nostalgia, flavor, and history—truly a Cincy...
