It was a very interesting experience. I loved some exhibits, confused by others, bored by others, even laughed at some. Like most modern art it's very hit and miss as to whether you'll like it. I think it'd be worth it to visit just to look at the architecture and one or two exhibits on the 2nd floor.
Not much for kids, if that's what you're looking for; there were a few exhibits with explicit content.
Very good representation for minorities.
A couple exhibits were a little confusing -- can I touch this, where should I be looking, should I walk through this/on this/around this... Some of the videos seemed hidden from visitors, but weren't. There were openings in the wall where you could just walk in -- if not for the signs I wouldn't have known the videos were there.
Lots of good reading material -- signs and plenty of books. Some interactive exhibits on the 1st, 2nd and 5th floor.
It was free for admission, but it wasn't free to park. We parked around the corner at a meter for an hourly fee -- reasonable. We stayed for between an hour and an hour and a half. This was enough time to ponder on some exhibits, but not to watch much of the videos or read every panel. It was also enough time to take a little visit to the gift shop -- my complaint is that the prices were not clearly labeled on some merchandise. We didn't eat at the cafe in the front, so I can't attest to the...
Read moreCannot recommend enough. Stop reading and GO! Even better it's free to the public every Monday evening from 6-9pm! So what do you have to lose?
UPDATE: IT'S NOW FREE ALL THE TIME!!!
Even if your not a fan of contemporary art and think a lot of it is quackery, even the darkest and most jaded of hearts will enjoy the top floor which is completely interactive! There is even a huge section for creating your own artwork! Also free! Everything from construction paper to water colors. And you are allowed to take it home with you! What?! Yes!
The collections rotate periodically so if you didnt like it, go back in a few months; you may love it now! Also check their website or call for info on the large amount of interactive workshops, performances and activities that they offer (usually free, but sometimes a nominal fee is required).
They also have a gift shop full of items you can't find anywhere else; perfect for that person that you don't know what to get for them!
I'd give this place 6/5 stars. One of my favorite places in all of Cincinnati!...
Read moreThis art center does an amazing job with inclusivity—from race, to ethnicity, to gender identity, sexuality, ability, and respect for those who are sensitive to particular content. The displays were very immersive and interactive and everything was well labeled. The reason i gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that for the visual art pieces, it would be nice to know when each showing will start and end, to help set expectations and lets viewers join at the very beginning when they want to. Additionally, it can be a bit tricky to know what order to walk through each floor, as in, which label goes with each piece and where to start and end, if that makes sense. Finally, i would suggest lowering the art slightly to allow shorter people or people utilizing wheelchairs to view the art more easily. Overall, i had a wonderful experience; i love the rotating exhibitions, the diversity, and all the free programming...
