Use to be one of my favorite candy shops, until recently. Visited with a friend and things went left when it was my turn to buy goods. Arrived in the store and was greeted with the wonderful smell of confections. Not much of a line just one family ahead of me and was ordering as I looked over the choices. Never heard the young lady behind the counter give any price es to the family ahead of me, only telling them about a deal on toffee if you bought so many of them. Needless to say the people ahead of me wrapped up there ordering and proceeded to pay. Next was my turn, I knew I wanted a pecan cluster with caramel and chocolate. I asked for one and proceeded to tell her I wanted to get some of the individual chocolates on the top shelf of the case. I picked the chocolate truffle and before I could add any more things to my order, the young lady proceeds to tell me that the ones I were picking were $3.50 EACH!!!. I looked at my friend in disbelief, insinuating I couldn't afford them. As a Black mild aged male I have never felt more disrespected in my life. I held my compomposure and proceeded to cut my order short and was ready to leave. My order totaled around $17 which I payed for and left the store shaking my head at the lack of respect for the customer this young lady had. I have never felt more humiliated in my life. I can see if she had Givin out prices to all the customers, but she singled me out due to my race and overall appearance. Needless to say this is my last visit to this place. I patronized this business for well over twenty years and never dealt with racial turmoil before. Your staff needs more training and I personally will be boycotting this place from now on until something changes. Check the cameras if you want to see it for yourselves. I was in on 8/5/2023 . Probably the only black male and white female in the shop at the time as the other two customers were white females. Please make this right, not happy with the situation I was placed in . Got to do better!!!!!😠 Ps... the toffee with bacon was...
Read moreMy daughter and I spent 3.5 days in Frankenmuth for Deer Widow's weekend. The entire weekend was a wonderful experience - store clerk's were curtious, restaurant servers were curtious - every experience we had was top notch - until we entered Zak's Bavarian Kandy Haus at 8:30 pm on Sat Nov 19/16. The staff was vacuuming when we arrived and we told them to continue on with their chores while we made our decisions. My daughter was in the process of purchasing a slab of fudge and a bag of salt water taffy. It had been rung in, but she had not yet paid for it. I was about to do the same when I noticed a sign stating "buy 2 slab of fudge and get one free". As we were discussing this the salesclerk told us that this was no longer possible because she had already rung in my daughter's purchase. We should have walked out right then and there, but in good faith followed through with our purchase. The fudge was excellent, but we, and other members of our family who visit Frankenmuth a few times a year and regularly stop in at Zak's, will NEVER RETURN. My entire family is self employed and curtious interactaction with the people we deal with is critical to our careers. This behaviour was totally unacceptable. It was one of the last places we shopped and left a very nasty taste...
