Bastard Restobar opened in Glens Falls a couple of months ago, and I finally had the opportunity to try it for myself.
It is an open concept kitchen with a small dining room, so you have a good view of the kitchen from your seat. A husband and wife team are the owners/cooks/daily operators and more. The menu is eclectic with something for everyone. Service was friendly and attentive with drink refills offered regularly. The kitchen was happy to answer my (many) questions. This is very much a warm and inviting atmosphere. Perfect for conversation and watching the "behind the scenes" of your meal being prepared.
The food was delicious! I started with the lobster bisque, which had many good-sized pieces of lobster and a broth that was the perfect balance of cream/wine/stock. Rich but not overwhelming.
I chose the Pan Roasted Chicken for my entree as well as a side of kimchi with Naan to soak up the heat (unconventional, but I really wanted to try it!). The entree was delicious with flavorful and moist chicken, creamy polenta, and nicely cooked chard. I loved the kimchi, with a perfect amount of spice that was nicely balanced by the warm, garlicky Naan.
I opted to bring some of my dinner home so that I had room to split a dessert. We selected the chocolate trifle (they had a smores dessert that was the first choice but had run out of marshmallows - hopefully it's there next time!). I am so glad we opted to split one dessert! It was delicious, rich and chocolatey but not overpowering and definitely big enough for 2.
I am so excited for this addition to the Glens Falls restaurant scene! We have had some new spots opening up in the past few years, and this will be a great one to add to the rotation. The menu will change seasonally as well as offer new specials weekly, and I am excited to see what new ideas they will come up with....

The first thing that wowed me was my drink — a ginger basil lemonade mocktail that was perfectly balanced, bright, and refreshing. It wasn’t too sweet, and the basil flavor came through beautifully.
We started with the Chef’s Starters, and every single bite was exceptional. The shrimp with house cocktail sauce was so incredible my father asked for the recipe to take home to Raleigh! Each bite was carefully crafted and packed with flavor — the perfect way to start the night.
For dinner, my father tried the signature ramen (his very first ramen ever!) and loved it so much he finished the entire bowl. I had the pappardelle with mushroom and beef ragù, which was rich, savory, and easily the best version of this dish I’ve ever had in Upstate New York.
The atmosphere is cozy and thoughtfully designed — from the décor to the plating, every detail feels elevated and intentional.
But what truly sets Bastard Restobar apart is the people. The owners and staff are warm, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. Being able to watch the chef at work and chat with her about the food made the experience feel personal and unforgettable.
I’m so excited to become a regular here and can’t wait to come back to explore more of their menu as new items are introduced. Thank you to the owners and the entire team for your incredible hospitality, service, and food — you’ve created something truly special here.

Read moreI am really rooting for these guys, but some things deserve fixing. I've had dinner at Bastard four times now. The first time my partner and I ate there, we were stunned by the perfection of the food and drinks. Succulent meat, complex cocktails. Since then, it's been a little more complicated. It's still our favorite restaurant in town, but as this family business becomes more popular, it is showing some growing pains. They're understaffed---one host, one server, one chef, one sous--for a place that seats 30, with each person ordering cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The rodeo was in town tonight and they were clearly overwhelmed. It's a great problem to have -- they've created something special and deserve the popularity, but the packed house with limited staff led to us being seated after 1.5 hours, given drinks at the 2 hour mark, brought appetizers at the 2.5 hour mark, brought dinner at the 3 hour mark, and finally brought the check at the 3.5 hour mark. A classic small business mistake is to be afraid to make investments due to a pursuit of short-term profit, but the way to sustainably build a business is to invest upfront and enjoy the resulting benefits in the long-term. Please face your growing popularity and hire multiple additional staff, both servers and cooks! You deserve to be appreciated for the best you're capable of, which requires...
