We have just experienced the worst case of discrimination from the Governor's Tavern male staff on duty, on Saturday, October 4 around 4:30 pm. I called at 3:30 pm to inquire if they take reservations, and the lady said it's walk in, which is totally fine. When we arrived at 4:15 or so, we asked for the table of 4 and the lady said they need a few minutes, so we said ok we will wait outside. After about 10 minutes of waiting a table for 4 cleared outside and we were expecting to be seated. At the same time a group of 4 women showed up and went inside to ask for the table. The male person on staff proceeded to giving them the table and I explained that we were there first. His response was that these ladies came in 20 minutes ago and he promised them that table. I said but you don't take reservations, if anything, then we should have been given the same opportunity, and that it is not fair. He kept saying that this table was promised and that's it. To which I said well that's really not fair and I'll be sure to write the place a review. He said, quote "I don't care about your review." The 4 women then said I was nasty and that the restaurant industry is struggling. How is that even relevant???? Everyone knows that the industry is struggling, but whatever happened to courtesy and fairness? On top of all things, it was just quite clear to us that we were refused service because we were a multi racial group, with me being Russian and speaking with an accent, and other people also of different ethnicities. While the women who were seated were white. And that's the end of it. These women most likely did not came in 20 min ago and had just walked in, and the guy when he realized he was wrong, he just made the "I promised them this table" lie up.
If I could give this place no stars, I would. In retrospect, the lady who I talked to first, she was trying to help, and she did tell the male employee that we were there first. But he wouldn't listen.
Bottom line, because this was clearly a racial issue, I would be filing a complaint with New York State Division of Human Rights, Hudson City Mayor's Office, and whatever other agency is the overseeing agency for the restaurant industry. I find this entirely unacceptable and plain wrong. This should not have happened in the 21 century and especially in Hudson, which is one of the best places I have...

Tucked into a building that’s stood for more than 150 years, Governor’s Tavern is more than just a bar—it’s a living piece of Hudson’s history. What began as the State Grill decades ago, later becoming the beloved Iron Horse, has now been reborn as Governor’s Tavern: a place where the past and present come together over cold beer and comfort food.
This isn’t a posh gastropub or a fancy cocktail lounge. Governor’s Tavern is the kind of spot where you can kick back with friends, catch the game on TV, and dig into food that doesn’t apologize for being hearty, messy, and ridiculously good.
The menu is short, sharp, and full of character. From wings slathered in bold sauces, to crispy wonton nachos, to the infamously loaded Dirty Bastard Burger, every dish is crafted with one mission: to satisfy. They keep it approachable, they keep it fun, and never skimp on portions. Hungry? You’re in the right place. At the bar, it’s all about beer. With a dozen taps and an ever-changing lineup of bottles, cans, and even spiked ciders, Governor’s Tavern keeps things lively without overcomplicating it. If you’re here for craft cocktails, you might be in the wrong place—but if you’re here for a cold pint and a plate of something crave-worthy, you’ve found your home.
What makes it special isn’t just the food or the drinks—it’s the atmosphere. With vintage tavern vibes, tight-knit seating, and the hum of sports on the TVs, Governor’s Tavern feels more like a community living room than a restaurant. Locals gather here. Visitors discover us and never forget us. And everyone leaves full, happy, and maybe just a little louder than when they came in. Governor’s Tavern isn’t trying to be everything. They're trying to be your go-to bar when you’re craving real food, cold beer, and no-nonsense good times. It’s been that way in this building for over a century—and they're proud to keep the...
Read moreDON’T COME HERE! RUDENESS BY THE WAITERS RUINS EVERYTHING ELSE.
The most important thing in life is education, which the waiters haven’t had with me and my group of friends. We entered the place asking for 14 people and they started looking at us like saying “you’re crazy” and this made us feel uncomfortable in the first place, and then they said that the chicken would close at 10 (we were there at 9:30) like they didn’t want to host us.
We sat down, and THEY STARTED WHISPERING ABOUT US. I tried to order a beer (I’m 24) but I don’t have my id with me because I was there for a trip, I had a photo of my passport and my group of friend are all above 24. The waiter didn’t either wanted to see it. Insane!!! I live in New York and I can access everywhere with a photo of my passport, there evidently are backwards in time(?).
We ordered for 14 burgers but we received only 13. We told the waiter and she claimed that what has been written on her order, was on the table, which is a really rude response to give a customer, especially because was untrue and she didn’t want us to show the order in the first place, then she did and obviously there were 14 burgers.
After each one of these occurrences the first thing that she did was going to her colleghe and whisper with him about us, and believe me, they did it because I read their lip.
I hope this raver will be closed because they ruined our mood! FIRE THEM BECAUSE THE FOOD IS...
