I absolutely love Alvin & Friends. This was my 2nd time going there. Some friends and I went there on Friday 12/17. For starters the staff is very professional and friendly. You're made to feel welcome the moment you walk in. The place is beautiful with a cozy feeling. The lovely art on the walls just seals the coziness. It's very clean (even the bathroom). Out waitress Latoya was the absolute best. She was very friendly, patient, and attentive. We started off with the codfish fritters which were delicious. They came with a sauce which was really good, but truly, I didn't need it.. yum. I ordered a Cosmo (one of my fav drinks), same as I did a couple years ago on my first visit, and boy oh boy..10 thumbs up to the bartender👍🏾. It was absolutely divine. Even the other people sitting next to me had to ask me what was I drinking...I guess they noticed my enjoyment and satisfaction with my Cosmo💫. They queried and I told them what it was and they proceeded to order the same, and gave me a 👍🏾 on their first sip. I had 2 cosmos for the night .and that was all I needed..wink wink. They brought corn bread to our table, and omg...these things are sinful. I really had to control myself or I would have eaten more than I should. We all loved them. My entree was a special, baked fish stuffed with crab meat, with mashed potatoes and spinach. This meal got a 10 out of 10 from me. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Someone had run punch meatballs..they were really good..another had lamb which was succulent and perfectly seasoned. Oh by the way, while we were talking and laughing Alvin came to join us, greeted us and wished us a happy holiday. He wanted to know how we were doing and if everything was good.. Of course everything was lovely. He's a gracious gentleman! I appreciate his light personality and vibe. With the live jazz, the clunking of glasses (cheering), the chatter, laughter, the sound of cutlery on plates, all these together just makes you happy to be at Alvin...
Read moreAlvin & Friends is a beautiful restaurant that has great jazz groups as well as play great jazz while eating when there are no groups. Too bad the food isnt great. I dont know what southern food they're trying to make but none I have ever eaten. They have garlicky calamari with a cucumber sauce or something which is horrible. There's some kind of red sauce which is not marinara and I didnt taste garlic so i cant even explain the taste to you. The salad looked delicious it was supposed to have a ginger dressing which I thought would taste like the Japanese dressing but again it was lacking. I tasted very little ginger and a bitter aftertaste of something. You know that the salad dressing makes the salad so this did not make the salad. It needed salt maybe some vinegar to bump it up. Hubby had the jambalaya which tasted pretty good and I had the chicken roti which was good as well. I got a side of collard greens and I hate when they're cooked til they're soggy/mushy instead of crisp and tasty. They have a little kick but again the flavor was horrible. Southerners know how to make collards do I don't know what cook he has in the kitchen cooking his southern food but soggy greens are not good.😜😜💯 I saw peach cobbler on the menu so you know southern pies are usually the best; again a miss. The peaches were cut in cubes, not cute, and I asked for vanilla ice cream on it which there was something white with blue and pieces of fruit but it didn't taste like vanilla ice cream. Not something the southerners would want to claim trust me. I'm nervous to go back & try other things on the menu but would love to keep going back to listen to good music in the beautiful restaurant. There is beautiful art all over the restaurant & if Alvin did it himself then he has a great talent. The staff are nice, the restaurant is beautiful and the music playing compliments digestion of your food. I'll try again because of...
Read moreTook a dear friend to Alvin & Friends for her birthday on June 18, expecting to have a nice meal outside. After being seated outside and placing our order a man that appeared to be bothered walked from the curb and sat at the table next to us. He began disagreeing with himself. The fact that he was talking to himself was not a problem🙏🏾 however I didn't want to eat dinner in that unpredictable atmosphere. I asked if we could move to another table for dinner. (Salmon) The manager did not receive our request well. The manager quickly became very rude, dismissive and arrogant😳 I was speechless! He told me the "man is not bothering me and I can go inside to eat". He did not try to fix the concern for outside eating by accommodating my seat change or seating the man at another table. Remember this man walked from the curbside, he was not seated! We finished our appetizers and asked for the check, couldn't enjoy fish while smelling the unpleasant odor from the gentleman. The waitress Pearl was super nice and understood our request however the manager couldn't care less.
Alvin stated that he would have given us a future courtesy but now he has to discard two Salmon dinners. The man was clearly hungry and in need of basic care🙏🏾meal. I was disappointed that my simple request was so poorly received and the meal was trashed instead of feeding the disturbed man.🥺 Alvin's manager is horrible for business and humanity. He made my friends birthday experience and meal a complete disaster, he was aware that we were celebrating her birthday. No empathy or concern for doing right by Alvin's customers.
Alvin's manager will definitely have a negatively impact on business due to poor customer service. On a positive note Alvin's food is great and Alvin...
