The coffee shop is good, but the company that owns this building needs to work on their hospitality 👀 I was treated like a trespasser, not a customer, and I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom. Why did I spend $18 on coffee and pastries just to be treated badly?
For context, the coffee shop is part of an upscale apartment complex, and the bathroom is inside the complex. A doorman lets me in to use the bathroom, and then...
After using the bathroom, I ask someone working in the apartment complex if there's a water fountain, and they say, "No, it's only for people who live in the building." I head back to the coffee shop and ask the doorman if there's a water fountain anywhere. He says yes and lets me into the complex again. I fill up my water bottle and then go back to finish my food.
When I'm done and ready to leave, I try to go to the bathroom a second time. Turns out the doorman got in trouble for letting me fill up my water bottle. He says that I "disobeyed" them by using the water fountain (that he told me I could use) because someone else had told me no. Because of this, the building management wouldn't let me use the bathroom again.
I spent $18 at the coffee shop, drank my whole beverage, and really needed to use the bathroom. Don't gate keep a basic human need just because your building staff isn't communicating with each other about where patrons can and can't go. Sure, maybe I should have thought twice before filling up my water bottle, but it didn't seem like a big deal. I went straight to the water fountain and came back. It's not like I was wandering the halls of the apartment complex.
The coffee shop staff was perfectly friendly, but the apartment complex staff could have dealt with the situation more gracefully. Instead, they made me feel like a criminal over something as trivial as filling up a water bottle. I was really excited to see a Colombian coffee shop in town, but this experience put a damper on my afternoon.
Unfortunately I had to rush out the door to meet my friend. If I'd had more time, I would've liked to explain things and come to some kind of understanding, so I could at the very least use the bathroom.
I know the rules for next time, but I'm not ready to...
Read moreReally great service. The guy took his time helping me figure out what to order, even though he barely spoke English. He was extremely tentative and helped me pick out a chicken empanada. I usually don’t go for chicken empanadas, but he seemed adamant that it was good. lo and behold when I tried it - it was so great. I wish I actually got more of them. Definitely will be coming back for that.
The coffee was strong and made well, I love when I go somewhere and they actually have a really good quality coffee. I actually feel energized from that cup and that’s coming from somebody with a very high caffeine tolerance. I got a vanilla latte made with almond milk in the large size with ice. And I Finished it. Those who know, know.
The atmosphere was so peaceful. I am really shocked that a place like this is even located in New Rochelle.I felt so serene. I go to a lot of different cafés all over the world, it’s kind of my thing, and this one is going to go ahead and just take top five.
Comfortable seating, plenty of seating, lots of outlets, fast, and free Wi-Fi, plentiful parking in the area, clean and tables are well attended to. Looks like they also had some outdoor seating but I didn’t take a look.
I didn’t have to wear headphones either. I was there to work on a document and it was quiet on a Saturday at 2pm. the moody house music was perfect I almost asked for the playlist.
This place will...
Read moreI used to enjoy my coffee here. Good baristas and quality beans. Unfortunately, the standards have dropped significantly. They no longer offer single origins, and when asked, staff don’t seem to know what that means. So no more espresso shots of their nice Colombia.
Lattes that were once balanced and well frothed now arrive sloppy and overly milky. Baristas seem undertrained, sometimes needing two people just to pull a shot. The Americano is served quickly, but it tastes like boiler tank coffee with poor filtration.
Today I tried to ask, in the simplest way, for a shot of espresso on top of hot water. I have to apologise to the shop. I completely disrupted their flow. They didn't know what to do and even had to call the manager.
It is disappointing to see a place that once took pride in being a specialty coffee shop now serves the average Dunkin Donut like coffee... in a nicer cup.
I wish they get back to being what they were. The blend and roast is still well balanced, they just need to train baristas ... on making and serving coffee (the one job they have) and if possible teach them more about the world of coffee. Yes, may sound like an arrogant coffee snob... but it was the only place in the area serving quality 😞 I even had a good chat once to the owner who proudly shared how they sourced, cupped and roasted to serve...
