I have been coming to Osteria Danny for years, specifically for my mothers birthday; it’s one of her favorites in Saratoga as we have been living here for 8 years and always wants to go there for her birthday. Today, being her special day, she wanted to go here. And I have to say I am extremely disappointed in the service we received.
The food was absolutely fantastic, as it always is!! As well the majority of the staff were lovely and courteous. Our server Terri, was a stark contrast to the rest. She was incredibly rude throughout the entire time we sat to dine. She immediately off the bat of us seating said to us that she had a “ten top coming in to eat for a ‘special occasion’ and we needed to be out by 7:30; we sat at 5:45. She used those exact words, I assume knowing we were celebrating a birthday. I thought Is my moms birthday not a special occasion? My mom proceeded to feel really bad and uncomfortable as well. In my 6 years and currently working in the restaurant industry, this time crunch I feel should’ve been mentioned to us over the phone instead of right when we sat. What I assume from working, this pressure makes guests feel rushed and uncomfortable.
Following this, throughout the entire dinner we were under pressure to get out; she was very curt with us the entire time. Before ordering, she told us how she is “constantly asked for” when people come into the restaurant and how her “recommendations were important to keep in mind.” She then proceeded to pressure us to order and when we said we haven’t thoroughly looked the menu, she got visibly frustrated and said she “wanted us to have enough time to leisurely eat”. She then cleared our appetizers very quickly, poured and then dumped the rest of the bottle of wine, which was split between 4 people, which it turn gave my father a massive glass, to ensure it would be finished quickly and snagged the bottle off the table. Lastly, threw down the candle lit dessert at my mother and rushed through singing happy birthday to her. I feel that overall, she was very offended by us and didn’t like our table. I felt as though we didn’t do anything wrong, I however could be mistaken. Another important thing to mention was that she kept putting her hands on my fathers neck and shoulders which was not okay.
The most frustrating part of this all, was when the table next to us was told by our server that “you guys were fun, thanks for being a fun table.” In a very snarky tone and loud enough that we could here it; not as bad as the second remark. What she then proceeded to say was “Thanks for being so smart, I wish all my tables were as smart as you guys.” In regard to the fact that we weren’t fast enough to leave the restaurant for the next turn.
I have no reason to being untruthful about this, I know how hard times are right now for people. I as well am aware this is my perspective of the story, but it was not an enjoyable experience. I currently work two jobs both in restaurants, so I understand the protocol. But this was really unacceptable. I understand 100% being pressured to get a second turn of tables in and make as much money as you can; especially it being the holidays. She had a job to do and I completely respect that, but it was my mom’s birthday, and I think this warrants more than an hour and a half of seating time. I would’ve appreciated the heads up that we had limited time to eat. This is one of her favorite restaurants but our server was really...
Read moreAfter a wonderful first dining experience we decided to drive from NYC to celebrate my milestone Birthday at Danny's. Our Family and Friends knew we were going away and a couple Family members asked where we would be dining and the address and time. When we arrived I went to the Ladies room and my Husband asked if anyone had sent anything for my Birthday, the server told us that there was a funeral that day and that Patti (Danny's wife) probably didn't answer her phone all day. Our Server when he found out our last time starting making inappropriate Italian jokes and using slurs and language that would've gotten him fired in any other place. We shrugged it off but were uncomfortable. He asked if we wanted olives to pick on so of course we said sure, he never told us there was an $8.00 charge for 5 olives and barely there provolone. The shrimp bada bing appetizer was drowning in sauce and was almost inedible as was the signature Veal Danny. My Veal parmigiana on the bone with homemade pasta was delicious, so no complaints there. Here is where this experience really fell apart, I found out my Brother and Daughter each wanted to send something for my Birthday, a bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne as well as paying part of the bill. They tried calling all day and left messages and couldn't reach anyone, nor did anyone call back. I texted the restaurant to let them know how disappointed I was and how this would've made my day so much more special and I received a response from Danny/Patti saying sorry your expectations weren't met. What, my expectations are that you answer the phone! If you are charging NYC prices then be professional and answer your phone. We emailed back and forth and it was not a pleasant exchange, finally Danny said if we are in Saratoga again we should take our friends and go somewhere else. We absolutely will and...
Read moreTruly phenomenal! My husband and I went here to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. We lucked out and were able to get a reservation for 5pm on a Wednesday the day before. We were seated on one of their two covered outdoor patios and had Terri as our waitress. She was friendly, fast, and made great recommendations. I've been craving seafood so we went with the Bang Bang Shrimp app & Octopus special app - both were SO good!!! For our entrees, I had the scallops with lobster risotto (amazing) & my husband got Veal Danny, chef Petrosino's signature dish (equally as amazing). They were tender, flavorful, cooked to absolute perfection and we were both just basically eating in silence because the food was too darn good to stop to talk lol. I rarely order dessert out because I hate that overstuffed feeling, but we shared a slice of their traditional chocolate cake and Terri added a surprise scoop of their house made salted caramel ice cream.... this was TO DIE FOR. Like I'm tempted to just see if they'll do a takeout order of just that and go pick it up. That cake was warm, moist, not too heavy (no frosting which you never even miss), and idk what sorcery they use in making their ice cream but I'm SOLD on it. We'll definitely...
