Started out as an exciting Friday night out to eat without the kids so was able to finally try Takumi. We arrived at 8pm (they close at 10). Ordered 2 drinks and our food. All seemed great. The hotpot was tasty and all ingredients seemed fresh. I recommend skipping the frozen protiens for hot pot and use the BBQ grill protiens for hotpot. Unfortunately this is where it all goes bad and why we will advise everyone to avoid Takumi. 8:30 comes around and drinks were done. Waitress (MaryJane was name on receipt) was nowhere to be found. I found her and the woman and front desk chattin' and asked if we could get 1 more drink for my wife (I'm not a big drinker) They looked at each other and she LITERALLY rolled her eyes with the woman at front desk and had a started laughing seemingly at my expense. I didn't understand so I stood their confused and asked what was funny and their matter of fact response was "We already did last call" like I had offended them with a rediculous request. We weren't made aware of any last call, it seemed odd, and flat out rude to laugh at a customer who had to track the waitress down just to ask for a drink with 1.5 hours left open. I didn't argue I was so stunned at their behavior. She ended up making her drink but dropped it and ran. 15 minutes later and still no check in to order more food. Tracked her down again (she was busy eating which apparently they didnt want us to continue doing). I was so irritated as the food was great but they clearly wanted the restaurant to empty out so after flagging her down we were so frustrated we paid the $100 bill and left hungry. Unreal. Never had a such a bad dining out experience in my life and at what this place charges it's a shame to have such horrible service. We did not report to management as we felt it was the manager (middle aged white lady) at the front desk who was laughing at me with server for ordering a drink at 8:30 and allowed staff to eat on instead serving their tables. Did I mention the service was horrible? After checking reviews prior to writing this it seems to be a common theme. Don't expect them to be here a year from now unless they change out...
Read moreA new hot pot restaurant opened in Clarksville!! Takumi Japanese BBQ and Hot Pot! It's really good! I was so excited because I looked at their menu and saw how reasonably priced they were. The only other hot pot restaurant I'd been to was in Nashville, and it was over $100 WITH a Groupon for me and one friend. The Takumi experience was great! You pay a flat price. It's $29.99 per person for the hot pot and $34.99 per person for the hot pot and bbq. I suggest the latter. You choose your soup base individually, then whatever meats and sides you choose are for the whole table. There are about 6 pages of choices and you go page by page. It's all you can eat within a 2 hour time span. Drinks are $3 - $4 and they are free refill unless you get the Boba tea. Our server was very nice. He operated the grill for us since it was our first time there. It was my first experience with one of those table grills. I got sooooo much food!! I was a little overwhelmed, so didn't take pictures of it. The food comes raw and it cooks in your soup base, like fondue except it's not cheese. There's also this cute little robot server that brings food when a server isn't available! I also saw it seat a group. I laughed my butt off! If it was trying to go somewhere and anyone was in it's way, it would say "I'm working" like.... get out of my way!! I died laughing! Our server, Derrek, just rolled his eyes. I can see why the staff don't like it, but it is hilarious to me! 😂 In the end, I got some pictures of the restaurant, a picture of the server bot, and a picture of our outstanding server, Derrek, with one of the nicest assistant managers I've ever run across, Ben. It's worth the trip to...
Read moreEdit: changing my rating to be higher since we went back the other day. It was exponentially better; they changed to new utensils, the menus had marked out which items they no longer have and switched out to fresher pages. The lobster tanks have been completely cleaned as well. The food quality is still the same, meh... but the experience is still great. Original: So I never really write reviews, but this feels needed. When they first opened, it was very yummy and was a fun experience. It was great for a while, but we had taken some time before we went back last night. Firstly, they're always out of the same few items that I try to order every time. "We're out" but probably never had the items to begin with at this point. Our server told us as we sat down that they were out of the blue crab which was fine, but when we actually ordered, they were out of at least 3 or 4 other items. If you're going to tell me you're out of some things, don't just stop at the one item. They also often either forget to bring out items or say they're out after the fact. Then the upkeep on their menus and some utensils aren't the best. The menus were all falling apart; paper torn, holes in the page protectors, can't see the full menu. The lobsters have always looked so sad and covered in algae.. I don't know anything on how to keep them but that didn't make me want to order them. They keep sauces and toppings out on a counter in big open bowls, and this time there were so many flies all around those sauces and our table. The lobster tanks were empty this time but are full of algae and other debris.. even if it's empty, at least make it look nice since it's at the front of...
