Food okay, off the beaten path, other Mexican eateries in area that I personally prefer.
Update: tried again about six months ago and been going about once a week since then. We try to sit in Jason’s or Jerry’s sections. They are pleasant and good servers. Majority of the other servers are good too. Authentic Taco plate is good. Good vibe and atmosphere. We have never attempted the alcoholic beverages. We enjoy the desserts too. Patio seating available too.
Update: this is our favorite place for authentic taco plate with queso and pleasant atmosphere. We split the food as it seems enough for two of us. Good food and service.
Update: continue for dinner once a week or so. Easy and pleasant. Consistent dependable service. I continue to Stand by previous compliments. Sweet tea good. Ranch dressing sauce, which I cannot get enough of, arrived with chips and salsa. I like to put it on my taco. a nice extra fresh taste. The banana dessert is good and shareable and not too sweet. A good end to a pleasant dinner.
Update: we tried another dish. Not so content with it. Tamale fat and shredded pork meat inside was pretty descent. Pork roast encased in thick Mesa. Beans okay and rice pretty descent. Shredded chicken in enchilada was not very appealing.....the shredded chicken meat wad was not to my liking......We liked not having an up charge for queso on the enchilada. No coke products. This plate won’t be ordered again. Plate was big. Only ate half of the beans and rice. Chips harder than usual. Flatware wasn’t available and ready.
Update: now we stick with what we like. Authentic taco plate. Queso and chips. Good service. Nice and pleasant atmosphere. Banana dessert and fried ice cream both yummy too.
Update: the grilled fish plate called Pecasado Monterrey is good. I asked for the sliced pepper jack cheese on the side. This was a good plate with grilled onions and mushrooms, tortillas, rice and beans. I will get this again. Finished meal with banana burrito, which is good too. Service always good. update: food okay. the help, meaning the servers, are so-so. some do not have the skill set to be a server. some apparent have language barrier. hard to communicate thru face masks too. this is a turn-off. i ordered Cardinal which is rice chicken breast and queso over it. i didn’t realize it was the special. i rec’d a smaller portion as i only paid $7, which was okay with me. the server should have explained the difference. if a grown man ordered this, it would not have be...
Read moreI got to experience this restaurant for the first time with my wife and daughter. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of choices, and settled on the Sirloin Steak a la Tampiquena. It was supposed to come with grilled onions, pico de gallo, guacamole, rice, beans, and flour tortillas. I say supposed to because I didn't hardly get any of it. We actually ended up getting our kids meal about 10 minutes before the main course. When our food finally came, the waitress brought the sizzling entrees and then asked if we needed anything else. My response was of course "Yeah, the beans, rice and all that are coming right?" to which she remembered to go get it. Then she comes back with the rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and tortillas for my wife's dish, but nothing for mine. I had to remind her again to bring mine. She came back again only with rice, beans, and tortillas. No guacamole. No Pico. I was very dissatisfied with how absent-minded the waitress seemed to be about everything. I was honestly surprised she rang up our food at the right prices. She disappeared for about 10 minutes as we finished our food and waited for her to bring us the check.
Now for the food, it was great. It reminded me of some good spots I used to eat at growing up in south Texas. I was disappointed that they didn't have homemade flour tortillas, but hardly anyone does in this part of the country. Also the "spanish" rice was just asian fried rice with corn, peas, and carrots in it. At least try to make spanish rice instead of passing off asian fried rice as your own.
Take your chances on this place, you might end up getting the absent-minded waitress, or barely any of your food. If you do, check out the rice, you never know if they just dumped a Michelina Fried Rice $1 dinner...
Read moreWe get there 4 people and baby to be taken to a back corner so tight you can’t even move with the baby seat and would have never worked and asked to be reseated to a shrug of the shoulders and we chose where we sat (side note - no baby seat slings or seats ) First off let me start by saying our queso came out ice cold when we got it I’m not sure how that even happens and then it went to hell from there . Everyone of our meals came out cold on luke warm plates , one that was dirty and with it taking our waitress 12-16 minutes to come back from giving us our drinks to only throw the queso in the microwave and not apologize once it wasnt worth sending back and we were all hungry so we started in and decided to just deal with it when we then realized that my sons meat on his taco salad felt like it came out of the fridge , my daughters lettuce was brown in hers , and my friends rice and burrito was ice cold after she cut it up .../we said nope we are leaving . We asked for a manager to which we were told “I mean I’m kinda the manager what’s wrong” so after telling him everything he then tells us that we have to pay for all the food that was touched but he’s sorry for the inconvenience , I then said this was the first and last time we would ever be there and That I couldn’t believe that is how they would treat customers and not make it right . So we had to pay $40 for awful awful food that wasn’t even consumable ! Beyond rip off and I will never ever...
