Anthonyâs went above and beyond for me and am forever grateful. It was my wifeâs Birthday and Our 13th Anniversary, I was a bit strapped for time to make things perfect and being relatively new to the area I wasnât sure so where to turn. Being from the Boston area originally we both like to have some authentic Italian food from time to time and this is what she had requested. After checking menus of various places Anthonyâs checked all the boxes for us. I secretly wanted to make this a special event for her so I had to keep things kinda quiet. I called messaged Anthony on Saturday to see if there was anything they could do for me on a Sunday afternoon. I knew it was late notice so I wasnât going to get my hopes up. I was looking for flowers, decorations and maybe a special table for her and us. He replied âI got youâ and would have his manager Mary call me. Mary called me and asked a couple of questions to make sure she understood what I requested. I also mentioned to her that neither of us were drinkers and asked if they did âMocktailsâ. Ok, so with all of that being said. Anthony and Mary sure did âHave meâ. We arrived and they had a beautiful setup all arranged for us. A special table with flowers and balloons to celebrate her Birthday and also our Anniversary !! She has also gone out of her way to pick up some non alcoholic wine and Tequila mix !! What service already, I knew I was in good hands. The meal started with some fresh Foccacia bread and dipping oil, it was perfect. We then shared an order of Mozzarella sticks. My wife ordered Cheese Tortellini and myself Chicken. Rollatini, let me tell ya folks, this was the best Italian meal I have had in years !! We finished it out with some of the best Cannoli I have had. I would recommend this place to anyone, anywhere !! I was so impressed I had to order a Sicilian Pizza to take home ⊠and let me tell ya, fresh, huge and full of flavor it was !! Thank You Anthony and Mary for making this special day one to remember !! You now have two more...
Read moreThe best pizza in the US is generally acknowledge to exist between NY and Philadelphia. Very close to its origins in the US, having been introduced by Italian immigrants coming into the US through Ellis Island. And while I have had some good and very good pie south of Philly, nothing really compared to the pizza I have eaten in that slice of America.
My wife and I moved to this Raleigh suburb 18 months ago and surprisingly there's some pretty good pizza here. But we recently found out about Anthony's and decided to give it a try. So without leaving you in wonder any longer, Anthony's pizza is the real thing. It's about perfect pie. Matching the crust (the most important), sauce and cheese from any pizzeria I have frequented between Philly and the Big Apple.
This being our only visit I can only speak of a few items we had. Great pizza, very good Calamari and a luscious Limoncello cake. Anthony's also has a sizable menu of all the Italian dishes you know, including some you might not know. For that part of the menu, think Maggiano's (if you've ever been to one).
The restaurant is located in a small shopping strip across from the Clayton Walmart. Average size for its location. Clean, subdued and unimaginative Italian themed décor. Pleasant staff. Good iced tea (must have my iced tea). Not sure there's much space inside to make any kind of decorative statement, at least they weren't playing canned Italian themed music. Though one can hear the cooks humming and singing from the kitchen, which is certainly preferable to afore mentioned canned music. The place can comfortable hold two to three dozen people, after that it looks to get a bit tight, from the tables and chairs we counted.
But don't go to Anthony's so much for the ambiance, go for delicious food, authentic Italian cooking and discover what all those folks up north get to take for granted and get a big pizza pie with your...
Read moreThe food is good. The owner is horrible! We used to eat there at least once a month. Never met the owner, so he didn't know we were regular customers helping pay his bills. We had just started eating, when we saw a roach crawling across the dining area. I informed the waitress quietly, so as not to disturb the other guests. I told her we didn't want to take the food with us either. She brings us the check for the full amount, even though 90% of the food is still there! I ask for the manager, and walk to the front, again trying to be discrete. The manager says "It's the South. Everyone has bugs". Really!! I ask for the owner. He storms out from the back. Doesn't even ask what's going on, and says he doesn't have roaches, just little black bugs. Really!! My wife said, everybody knows what a roach looks like. He hollers "You shut up!" Really!! That's how you treat customers! He then accuses us of trying to dine and dash, and says "You all probably don't have the money. I bet you do this everywhere". Really!! We bring home over six figures. I asked him, how are we trying to eat and not pay when our food is still on the table. His response was, "It is?" He then said "you don't have to pay but you are banned from this restaurant and don't come back" . I told him I didn't want it free, I just didn't want to pay full price when we didn't eat the food. He shouted "you are banned from this place get out". Customer service and sanitation less...
