Jersey girl here. Decided to try Sak’s today for lunch. Ordered a pastrami, Reuben and a plain pastrami on rye with mustard. The pastrami Reuben had good taste, but was so greasy the oil leaked through the wrapping onto my clothes. My husband ordered the pastrami sandwich on rye, and had to explain three times that he ONLY wanted pastrami on rye with mustard. We took the food to the car and decided to eat it on the way home before it got cold. As soon as my husband opened his, he said it’s not homemade pastrami and it’s grilled and greasy. We ordered one side of chips and one side of fries. If you like over seasoned fried chips and fries, then this is your place. We could not eat them. Some of the homemade chips were even soggy from oil. For the two sandwiches, we were charged $25. A bit pricey and I certainly don’t mind paying more for a five star sandwich. Certainly not like the pastrami you get up north, but not a bad substitute if you’re craving a...
Read moreI've had a hankering for a chicken cheese steak sandwich and sought out Saks to fulfill my craving. Let me start by saying the sandwich was LEGIT. It better be for an $11+ sandwich... Well, I ordered this masterpiece on the phone and requested jalepenos, lettuce, tomatoes, and mushrooms also be added. When I went to pick up my sandwich it totaled almost $16! $1.00(!) for lettuce, $1.00(!) for tomatoes, $0.50(!) for the peppers and $0.75(!) for the mushrooms. I was not informed the upcharges when I called in my order. Next time I'll order the stock sandwich and pay the $1.25 extra for a side salad which would have netted me more ruffage. I basically payed for a side salad for the sprinkling of lettuce and tomatoes that I got. Again, the sandwich was very tasty but the erroneous charges for normal popular and inexpensive sandwich add ons was very...
Read moreSak's is a family run deli that serves up awesome food at a really reasonable price! It's a couple of brothers from Philly, that whole brotherly love thing, and last time (not the last time) I was there one of the daughters was waiting tables, etc. They import their rolls from home (Philadelphia), and you can tell. Absolutely delicious. They also put their twist on the sides, and you can tell that too. If you're down 70 Business going to Clayton from Raleigh, your car might veer you that direction. Thank her. I'm not an Eagles, Phillies, or Flyers fan, but it fits this place well, and I've come around to appreciate that while I feast on a cheesesteak, or anything else. If you don't have room for dessert (understood), take any of them home with you for later, you'll be thankful you did! ...
