R&K Cafe II — Restaurant in Cleburne

Let me start by saying that the food at R&K II is fantastic. It's exactly what you want from a real Texas country-style restaurant: hearty, delicious, and feels like it was cooked with care. The service is just as good; the servers are incredibly polite and friendly, and the whole place has a warm, welcoming feel.

However, the reason I am giving them five stars goes beyond their lunch specials. With the manager's permission, I want to share a personal story. I was once a homeless member of this community, and during that difficult time, this restaurant was a place of refuge for me. The team here provided me with meals (I did not take advantage of this service they provided. I only went there when I was in a real time of need when I couldn't provide for myself), no questions asked, ensuring I had the strength to get through another day.

What I will always remember is the dignity they gave me. I was never treated as anything less than a valued customer. That simple act of human kindness is a powerful thing.

Ok, so last night I went in for dinner. I forgot it was Saturday and every Friday and Saturday they have a fish fry and I don't like fish or seafood but if you do it's the place to be . I go in for the bad ass ribeye that the cook there certainly knows how to cook. Fantastic as always, sorry I didn't take a picture, however. It was about 8:30 at night and I didn't realize that they close kind of early. So I was finishing up my meal when a gentleman walked in and wanted to eat. Staff told the man that they had already closed for the evening and as the gentleman headed for the door, the staff member stopped and told him they would fix him up with a plate to go. They absolutely did not have to do that but they did and that restored my faith in humanity. The look on the guys face was priceless but that is how the world used to be and is supposed to be like. Well, where do I start. We ordered the number four breakfast. I requested over medium eggs and got runny over easy. I requested gravy on my hash browns and did not get it. We got our food before our drinks, and no silverware. They were not even busy, but our waitress seemed to have a difficult time remembering things. We asked for silverware, since we already had our food, and she apologized and went to another table that had more people than us, instead of going to go get our silverware. More people more tip? The next table next to us, with a different waitress, they requested sweet tea and received non sweet. They ordered the chicken fried steak and got meatloaf, the steak belonged to another table. I finally got my sweet tea. Still no silverware. My food is cold by now. I git my drink, my boyfriend still waiting for his. On top of all of this? Make sure and bring a fly swatter.
