I ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad. A very simple dish. When it came out it had a glob of shredded, boiled chicken in the middle. For some people this may not be an issue but for me, it was. I do not like boiled chicken as it has a strange taste in my opinion. I did take a bite of it, to give it a chance. It was luke warm, very little seasoning if any at all, and watery juice squished out of it and I instantly knew I had to send it back. I asked the waitress for a plain piece of grilled chicken (like I thought I ordered) and she informed me that they don’t have grilled chicken on fridays. Which I thought was strange because the salad called for grilled chicken. Anyways, the waitress was nice enough and got me something different. My issues started when the owner, Lori, came to my table and aggressively said “what’s the problem here” I replied, “there is no problem, with a smile” she then started acting very passive aggressive and was questioning me. I simply told her I can’t eat boiled chicken and she kept arguing and making faces at me saying, “well that’s the way we do it here so i don’t know what you want”. This was a very uncomfortable situation and I feel like she was speaking very loudly on purpose to try and embarrass us. The bottom line is, it was called a grilled chicken salad and it was not grilled chicken. There was no need to be aggressive and defensive. There was also no need to approach me at all. The waitress had handled the situation. You know she was out of line when the waitress apologizes for the way the owner spoke to you.. customer service is everything and...
Read moreIt's a sandwich shop with a salad bar. I'm not a big fan of the selection of the sandwiches because I'm either allergic to the ingredients or do not like them. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon. I loved that I could order just half a sandwich instead of a whole sandwich. I wish more restaurants offered smaller portions instead of forcing their patrons to choose between being wasteful or becoming obese. Anyway, I digress. It was the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had in my life.
I can't really comment on the service because that was my fault. I was eating alone and got a phone call from a family member I never get to speak to. Normally, I am not a person to speak publicly on my cellphone because I think it is beyond rude and inconsiderate. I explained to my waitress why the phone call was so important and asked not to be disturbed. She was completely nice about it and obliged. My phone conversation was about 20 minutes long. I disconnected from my call and ate my dinner. My waitress never came to check on me again and she did an amazing job of not disturbing me. She was very attentive to the other patrons. I waved her over to me, she asked if I had a pleasant phone call, and was very understanding about the phone call and said she noticed I needed a refill, but didn't want to interrupt my phone call of a lifetime. She was very attentive after I waved her to me. All in all, I had a very pleasant experience and will be going back. I can't wait to try...
Read moreVery cute boutique and diner, friendly staff, right off the Cleburne square. They were offering specials when we went, we each got one soup from that menu- meatball, and creamy tomato basil. They were the stars of the show for sure. We ordered a catcher on the rye, they were out of rye bread so I asked for regular sourdough, it came on a roll instead of sandwich bread. Also got the 4 cheese grilled cheese, and the TOM with loaded potato salad but they brought German potato salad. The mix ups are not an issue, out waiter was new and the sourdough roll was still very good. Neither of us liked thr potato salad, but that's personal preference. Now, what makes this rating so low- service time and food quality. It took an hour for 3 sandwiches. The diner was not full, several other people that came in after were getting their food first. Which I could understand for some things, but again...sandwiches. When we got them, the grilled cheese was cold, no cheese pull moment there. The reason i got the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup was so that I could eat them together, but they brought out the soup almost immediately and then the sandwich an hour later. The catcher on the Rye had almost no sauerkraut whatsoever (see picture). It just was not worth the wait, we won't be back and I wouldn't recommend unless you just like the atmosphere and want to have a chat and...
