Republic Food and Drink — Restaurant in Cleveland

We stopped by here before we went to the Spider-Man show. And welll...Heads up! We didn't have a reservation and they sat us immediately. It didn't seem busy in there. So I thought we could grab a quick bite and get to the show. It took 30+ mins to get fried shrimp and a medium rare burger. The food seemed like frozen product you buy from the grocery store. Fried shrimp should take at least 7min to fry if in a deep fryer and a medium rare burger should take about the same time. I am pregnant, hungry, and getting a headache and my husband is getting impatient so once the food came I had to eat but the food was good but not that good. You can usually tell when the shrimp was hand breaded and fries were cut and blanched. These weren't so to take 30+ mins was unacceptable. They tried to offer us a free desser but we were already in a hurry to get to the show. I wouldn't recommend anyone going there. It looks nice. I'm glad Cleveland is finally getting the concept of what refined dining looks like in decor wise, but takes too long for the simplest dishes. I would understand if we got a steak and salmon dish but nah. My fiancé and I worked in food service before back of house and front so we expect some professionalism. Avery was very nice and sweet. Republic Food and Drink offers a convenient dining option close to the theater, which is one of its main selling points. However, my recent experience left a bit to be desired in terms of food quality.

I ordered the French onion soup and pierogies, while my husband opted for the steak and baked potato. While the soup had the right flavor profile, it lacked the depth and richness that one typically expects from a well-prepared French onion soup. The pierogies were decent but felt a bit underwhelming, lacking the robust filling and texture that make them truly satisfying.

My husband’s steak also fell short of expectations. Although it was cooked to his requested temperature, it lacked seasoning and flavor, making it feel somewhat bland. The baked potato, while a classic side, didn’t bring much excitement to the plate.

While the restaurant is not bad for a meal before a show, the prices feel inflated considering the quality of the food. The tourist atmosphere is palpable, and it seems that the focus may be more on convenience than on culinary excellence.

Overall, Republic Food and Drink serves its purpose for a quick meal near the theater, but if you're looking for a memorable dining experience, you might want to explore other options...

Unfortunately, this restaurant has gotten continually worse. What was once a place with excellent food with wonderful service, it reached an absolute low tonight. We placed an order 50 minutes before our show was to start, and our server knew we would be going. We never received our dinner. Our server forgot drinks, twice, and made excuse after excuse...not because she was proactive, but only after we asked. When we brought it to "one of the managers" he also made excuses. They both blamed everything on the chef, which was interesting because we watched table after table get their food which was ordered after us. Only pasta, though. The manager offered to fully comp our meal. When we asked the server where it was, 10 minutes after being told "they're just adding the potato" ...it was then we were told the manager canceled our order. He stood there and just looked at us. I've actually never in my life had such awful service. Avoid this place..the empty tables and the manager delivering gift cards and comped meals all over the half empty restaurant (I don't think we were the only ones receiving awful service) should have told...
