This was our first time at 1942 Tacos and Tequila with a group of 6 people before a play. Our experience was generic american-mexican punctuated by very bad service.
We were seated promptly at 5:45pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was 25% full when we were seated, and maybe a little over 50% full by the time we left. That's all to say, they were not slammed.
Service was abysmal. Immediately after seated, we were given a basket of chips and salsa (great!) then ignored. For 15 minutes after we were seated, we couldn't get water let alone order any other food or drinks. After repeated attempts to get a server's attention, we actually had to walk up to the hostess stand to ask for someone to come help us. At that point, someone did come to take our order, but we couldn't find anyone to refill water/order another round of drinks/ask for a dessert menu. We tried when they came to bring out the food, but apparently the people delivering the food couldn't take orders, and our attempts to get them to send our waiter over were futile. Our check was dropped off (without a word being said), but, in tune with the rest of the service, we couldn't get anyone to pick it back up. So we just paid it at the bar.
The food ranged from good to mediocre with the average being, well, average. Chicken and steak fajitas were fine, but nothing to write home about. Birria tacos were fantastic as was the street corn (elotes). I would have been disappointed if the quesadillas came out of my personal kitchen.
Margaritas were only authentic if the target was super mass market Americanized Mexican-ish. They were very sweet, very low alcohol, and almost certainly not fresh juice. For a restaurant with Tequila in the name, I expected a lot more. These were generously 2/10.
If you're craving Mexican, I'd go pretty much anywhere else. Worse case you get the same american-mexican food but with good service. Best case, you stumble into somewhere like great like Momocho or...
Read moreDrove over an hour to Cleveland because I saw this restaurant on online. Came here with two other people who agreed it was the worst restaurant experience we have all ever had. The food was mediocre. Margs were watered down. Plenty of staff, so honestly no excuse for them taking an empty chip bowl and not asking if we wanted more. I got my meal after my two friends were done with theirs. I had to stand up to get the waiter's attention for our check because he was cleaning a table across the restaurant (again not busy in there at all and plenty of staff walking around). After he hadn't checked in us 20min after we all finished everything in the table. We are very forgiving people so for me to write a review online says a lot. I have never been so close to dining and dashing. I didn't want to leave a tip either. We all were so dissatisfied after hearing about it online, drove over an hour together. We all just wanted to leave and find dessert somewhere to save the night. Again, so disappointed. Would honestly have asked for a refund if I saw a manager. I forgot to mention we got napkins at the end of our meal after finally caught our waiter. And hilariously I used the two wooden sticks from my elote to eat my meal with "chopsticks" because we never got silverware either and I again, was so disappointed and got my meal after my friends were done eating. I didn't want to waste any more...
Read moreI wish I could have just sent a direct message to the restaurant about these issues after placing an online order for pickup but the was no option for that.
The food here has been good but I've had a couple minor issues such as tortillas being burnt and getting beans and rice after I asked for no beans when I've ordered to go in the restaurant. Mostly no big deal.
This was the first time I ordered online and I don't think I'll do it again since everything was much worse this time.
First, the lunch entree I ordered was supposed come with tortillas but they were missing. Second, I ordered a kids meal with a quesadilla and taco with fries. I requested a chicken quesadilla and a beef soft taco which I authorized whatever the upcharge would be for. I got a cheese quesadilla that was burnt and literally only had cheese in a very small middle area plus a beef hard taco. Not what I ordered. If your ordering website has a spot for comments and states that alterations can incur an upcharge then you should honor that.
Also, I don't know specifically if this is because I ordered online vs. in restaurant but in general the food quality was not as good as previous visits.
I'm pretty unhappy with my online order today. I may give this place another try eventually because the food was decent on other occasions but I'm very upset by the issues I've had...
