We liked that this hotel was in the downtown area and so walkable. The front end staff was very friendly and helpful upon check-in, as well as any time I interacted with them.
The complimentary breakfast had a few other things than the standard SAD fare, but could've used some more fruit options, as well as gluten free options that weren't meat. Carolyn, who worked the breakfast room both days we were there, was very friendly and welcoming and we appreciated our conversations with her.
The room was overall pretty good. Much better than the hotel we had just come from. However, the toilet and shower are in a separate room from the vanity and sink and are not really conducive to much of anything. The door swings inward, so it's hard to use the toilet or the shower. And since there's no fan in there either, it gets really hot, really quickly. There's really nowhere to put your clothes to change and the towels can't really hang on the back of the door because they fall off and it's too humid in there for them to dry properly. In fact, the door is warped and delaminating from the massive amount of humidity, so this situation really should be remedied. A barn door replacement would probably solve most of the issues.
The only other issue was with the parking. It's only valet parking, which I didn't realize. I would've chosen another hotel had I realized that was the case.
It took quite a bit of time to get the valet situation explained properly to me, and the valet who was trying to explain it to me seemed overly irritated by my questions. I was sent a link to pay for the length of my stay for the valet fees and until that was paid I couldn't request my car for any trips we had planned. The link wasn't working properly and kept not letting me put in my credit card information. It finally worked after a couple of hours. After that, it was okay to request my car, but still took time to get it. I really dislike this as I'm fully capable of parking me own car and want access to it when I need it without having to wait or use a glitchy digital service. When we returned from our Cedar Point trip yesterday, the valet who took it apparently didn't realize we'd already been there and paid and sent me a link well after he took my car to pay again. Which I was not going to do, for obvious reasons. Therefore, when I tried to request my car this morning so we found check out, it wouldn't let me because it wanted me to pay again. This whole system is asinine and needs to be resolved.
However, it was overall not a bad stay, as the bed was comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. But if you have an issue with valet parking or tiny bathrooms that aren't functional, then this might not be the best...
Read moreThe location for this hotel is perfect. It's right downtown and a close walk to everything. The staff are very friendly, however the hotel as a whole needs a complete renovation, especially when it comes to supporting Marriott Elite guests. Upon checking in I asked the front desk clerk if "I had a good room" she said yes. Upon entering the room, the sofa was old and sunken in, the room was dark so I opened the blinds only to find a brick wall and air conditioner unit covers obstructing the entire view I'm every room. The next day when I went to breakfast it was highly underwhelming. The fruit was not fresh, the waffle makers had a sticky note placed on top saying "not working", the oatmeal bowl was on the counter but empty with individual sugared up processed oatmeal cups placed in front, all the meat items are pork, no honey, and take full advantage of all the potatoes you can eat. The kitchen cook informed me that all the meat items in the kitchen are pork and no turkey or vegan options were available. I went downstairs and spoke to the front desk supervisor about the lack of food options, especially for a Residence Inn.... There's a certain level of quality that's associated with this Marriott brand and this location is drastically lacking. The supervisor was super nice and let me know the manager was not available but would be the next day. The next day I went to follow-up and the manager was STILL not available, but the supervisor informed me she emailed the manager who would get in contact with me by email at her earliest convenience. I NEVER heard back from the manager.... In the meantime I spent 5 days in a substandard room with less than mediocre breakfast with only potatoes for me and my son to eat. The real disappointment is that I'm a platinum Marriott member so I spend more than 50+ nights and thousands of dollars a year in a Marriott hotel and if this is the room they give Platinum Elite members, then I hate to see the room they provide to regular degular people in the hotel. In addition, the manager is so "busy" I never received an email back or even acknowledge my concerns about the lack of options and substandard quality of the food. I never even addressed receiving "the worst room in the building" issue. In short if you're NOT a Marriott Elite member I would stay here for it's convenience, location, and friendly staff. But if you're an Elite member, stay in the Marriott or Westin a few blocks down the street where Elite members concerns are addressed and are...
Read moreI will tell everyone I know not to stay at this hotel, and I will be leaving a review on Trip Advisor. We visited Cleveland because I have serious heart issues and had appointments at Cleveland Clinic. I chose this hotel because of its downtown location. We checked in around 4pm, and the girl at the front desk at check in was rude (I do want to point out that the girls working the desk in the mornings were very friendly). This hotel requires valet, but there was no valet anywhere to be seen. So we stood in front of the hotel for over 20 minutes waiting for him to show up (the girl at the front desk had no interest in assisting us or finding him - she said he "went to the bathroom"). The location is great, but the hotel itself is very dirty - not up to Marriot standards. I would love to know when the elevators were last cleaned, I bet it's been weeks. All of these things were enough to make me not want to stay again, but then there was this:
We checked out of the hotel, got our rental car from the valet, and started heading to Cleveland Clinic for appointments. Suddenly there were warning lights popping up about tire pressure. After picking the car up from valet, we had one tire with 63 pounds of air (way over inflated), and a tire with 26 pounds of air (under inflated). When we stopped at the gas station to correct the tire pressure, we noticed scratches on the wheel of the tire that was over inflated. Clearly, the valet had driven the car, hit the wheel up against something, then added air to the tire without measuring the pressure.
NOTE: my husband always checks rental cars over before we start out on a drive, and he checked the tire pressure (before we left the car with the valet), and all tires were normal.
Because of our appointments, we did not have time to go back to the hotel to find out what happened, and honestly didn't feel it would matter because of the lack of service we already experienced. To top it all off, on our drive home, my husband found a one-hitter that had been left in the car. So not only did the valet drive the car, scratch the wheel, over inflate the tire, but he also smoked who knows what while doing it.
This experience makes me question being a Marriott member. There are other reputable hotel chains.
There is no where in this survey to attach photos, but I do have a photo of our valet ticket, the scratched wheel, and the one-hitter we found in the car. I wish we took pictures of the tire...
