My first visit to this restaurant. I heard some positive reviews so I decided to check it out. First, the location. Parking is not intuitive here, so beware of street parking where you may be ticketed. Otherwise, I think there's a paid lot behind the building. I don't believe in paying for parking, that's just me! Secondly, walking into the space my first impression was that it was really small, but I loved all the natural light. I thought the hostess was meek and soft spoken, which is a pet peeve of mine especially in customer service. Speak up! Nonetheless, she was very polite. The bar is beautiful, although I did not have a drink, what I saw coming out looked absolutely amazing! The seated eating area is up the steps, and also very small. The bench seating along the wall is too tall for the table height. There were chairs at the table, but that means sitting with your back to the entire place. Nope. There were tables in the middle, but I didn't ask to be reseated. I wanted the birds eye view. My server was funny, incredibly friendly, and not afraid to share her thoughts on certain menu dishes. To be clear, I asked for her opinion, and ended up ordering the Chicken and French Toast. The food came out super quick, it was hot, fresh and well seasoned. The portion size was a bit small, but honestly I appreciated that. Sometimes when I go out to eat, I want to do just that. Eat, enjoy and leave, not pack up leftovers. The atmosphere was fun and lively with music playing in the background which was at an appropriate, Saturday afternoon noise level. Apparently, they have a sing-a-long brunch on Sunday's, I would not be interested in that. Again this restaurant is small, and I imagine on busy day's the service may not be up to par. I could be wrong, but during my visit, there was only one server for a large party, and 3 other tables including mine. I saw people helping her, but she was main person. Overall, I thought the food was good, the service was good, and the music was lowkey jamming. Next time, I'm ordering the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went today in celebration of a birthday in which we were a larger group. It was a group of 15 in which they were not prepared for even though we had a 1:15 reservation. We waited cramped in what is supposed to be the party room that does not seat 15 people comfortably. Finally they were able to accommodate us at a table around 1:45. They waitress then began to take orders and Iāll give her 50/50 on hospitality because she was not one to smile, everyone did not have menus we were passing around about 6 menus among each other. Once the orders were taken and drinks came out it took food about a hour before it started to come out and it was coming out sporadically. We did not have silverware and had to ask for it. My husband got his food like 30 minutes before me and not all his items were present. There were two tables of 4 people that got their food before several of us and they came in way after us. I had an alcoholic beverage and no food so I could not drink because I had not ate yet today. Then the food was only barely warm when it did come out. The manager/owner never did come over to the table to offer an apology for the poor service but did opt to discount the bill for those that did not receive their food until everyone else was done eating. And mind you I only had chicken and waffles and didnāt receive it to last. Which goes to show that there is no organization in the kitchen. The music is overwhelmingly loud! I appreciate the DJ and the vibe of him being there at a brunch setting but the spot is not that large for the volume. I give props to the bartender if nothing else because my drink was really good even though I could only sip it for fear of getting sick drinking on a empty stomach. Needless to say I will not be returning to this establishment unless I hear or read reviews that a whole 360 has taken place. I love to support us but I also expect top tier service because black owned businesses donāt get they just do and sometimes we have to show up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe dined in on the Saturday before Fatherās Day to kick off celebrating my husband. We had heard mention of this restaurant online and figured since we were going to the art museum after brunch, this would the perfect location.
We arrived at opening. Our party along with two other parties were seated right away. Our waitress was nice and her name escapes me at the moment. For my drink I ordered a coffee and asked for Splenda or any sugar substitute and was told they didnāt have any. I was extremely disappointed in that since Iām a diabetic.
Our food came out and my husband was not pleased with his chicken and waffles. He said the chicken was plain and had no seasoning whatsoever. The waffles were just okay. They came out on a tiny plate and he had to ask for an addicted so he could manage his food without it falling onto the table.
My food was okay. The crab cakes were delicious. My eggs were over cooked. I asked for sunny side up and they came out fried all the way through where there was no runny yolk. You can even tell the cook flipped the egg and fried both sides. The potatoes were cold, but I still ate some of them.
My daughters enjoyed their French toast meals with no complaints.
One thing I was confused about was the plastic silverware. I would have expected a place that had a nice decor and is a little pricey to utilize real silverware. It cheapens the experience to me. Iād expect plastic silverware for take out, not dining in experience.
At the time we dined, there was no live music which I appreciated. My family and I were able to enjoy each others company and conversation.
Overall I would be willing to try them at least one more time, but my husband doesnāt want to so Iām not sure if weāll be back. The waitress did ask my husband was there a reason why he didnāt finish his food and he gave her his honest opinion. Not sure if that went anywhere or not, but he did let her know his opinion...
