I was excited to eat here as part of the Cleveland Independents Restaurant week. I made a reservation 2 weeks before. No problems getting to the restaurant or with our reservation. The host provided excellent services. They were the only one. After being seated we waited 20 minutes as other tables around us had their water refilled, or were seated and provided bread and water right away, before we had to flag down that same host for assistance. He took our order, made our drinks, and got our first course out (we ordered the prix fixe meals) right away. That was the last thing that arrived quickly. If the food had been good enough for the poor service (we continued to be ignored by the waiters attending nearby tables, the bussers removed dirty plates readily but refilled our water once) I would be forgiving. My sister loved the soup, I found it unpleasantly oily. The pasta pictured costs 19 dollars on the regular menu. It is around a cup of pasta with some oil and a few herbs. The trout almondine (not on the regular menu) was delicious and the portions of the fish were grand but one sister was given barely any asparagus while the other sister received a proper portion. The sorbet tasted like frozen Welch's grape juice. The ambiance was good, the chairs and tables comfortable and the stoneware and story of the place were enticing and interesting. But the food was not up to part with what I expect of an Edwin's Restaurant and the service (except for the host who again was excellent) was...
Read moreWe’ve been to Serenity out in Medina (one of Brandon’s other spot) and loved it. That place is more upscale, but this is exactly what you want before a show at Playhouse. Laid back, reasonably priced and it hits the spot.
Mario was our bartender/server and we kinda want to be his friend. Super friendly and just a good dude.
Food was great all around. The pretzel app was a big hit right away… warm, soft, salty, all the good stuff. The pork roulade was crazy tender. The beef stew in the bread bowl was awesome too… super hearty and full of flavor. The salmon was decent but the cream sauce kind of took over the dish (our only dish that wasn’t a Homerun, but the fish itself was still great.) The pizza was also a big win.
For dessert, we loved the Napoleon dessert. perfect end-of-meal sweet spot.
But honestly, the biggest reason to come here is the mission. They’re helping people transition out of homelessness and incarceration, and they give them opportunities in the restaurant. It’s more than just dinner, you’re supporting something that matters. Very cool!
Definitely recommend it. We’ll be...

A special thank you to Brother Phil, who generously took the time to speak with us and share more about The Friar’s Table's mission. His presence and passion brought even deeper meaning to our experience.
