The answer to your NYC deli dreams! Tost's second location has been long awaited, patrons won't see it in its final form just yet. The standalone building is on the edge of Tremont with a small parking lot in the back. The most striking decor so far is the loud black and white mural spanning the wall behind the deli counter. Otherwise, things are pretty bare bones, but fret not, as the sandwiches are impressive enough on their own.
There are laminated menus at the register currently, and unless you're a regular of the original Tost, allow your hungry belly a few minutes of perusal time to browse the hefty sandwich list, the deli sides, and the dessert display. Each sandwich is loaded with protein (sometimes 3 different kinds), sauce, and capped with perfectly tost-ed bread. I was hoping to see more vegetarian options besides an obligatory veggie sandwich and a fancy grilled cheese, but for omnivores the meat is tasty and well-portioned. There was sort of a lukewarm reception from the staff, which may be just due to the fact that things are still getting settled in. Behind a row of industrial toasters and a wall is presumably the kitchen where the magic happens and killer sandwiches are born. Each sandwich comes with a pickle and packed to go. I noted a bit too late that there was only one thin napkin in my bag, and await the placement of more napkin dispensers and utensils in the store. Prices are fairly reasonable for a meal-worthy sandwich. I couldn't pass up getting a brownie for dessert, and it is definitely worth the splurge if you love fudgy brownies.
The remaining square footage is to be filled with fridges of prepackaged goods and racks of condiments for sale so you can create your own perfect picnic. Dining in is limited to some wall counter space for standing or to squeeze a young one into one of their high chairs. And possibly stools...
Read moreMy coworkers and I placed multiple online orders for pick-up. The online ordering process was easy to navigate and no one seemed to have any issue figuring it out.
When I arrived to pick up our food I was immediately acknowledged with a friendly greeting. I told the gentleman behind the counter I was picking up multiple online orders and he was familiar with the orders and ran through the list of names to verify he had all of them correct. I waited a little longer than my scheduled pick up time but there were only 2 people working and they were communicative and apologetic about the delay. Our orders were packed up individually and labeled by each specific order. They boxed up the multiple orders for me so that it was easy to carry and the gentleman making sandwiches helped me carry the box to my car. He was very kind and friendly while on the walk to my car.
The reason for the 3 star food review was because the desserts and deli sides tasted old, as if they were made days ago. The sides with noodles were soggy and wet. The macaroni and cheese also had soggy noodles and the cheese tasted sour, as if it was going bad. The mini cakes, while adorable, tasted as if they had been frozen. That being said, everyone was very happy with their sandwiches which were made fresh while I was waiting for my order.
I am definitely willing to give Tost another shot because the sandwiches were good and the customer service...
Read moreI've passed Tost almost every Sunday on my way to St.Wendelin's Church and kept thinking I'm going to stop in there one day and see what they have 🤔 So today was the day 😊 So glad I did 👍 There's a small parking lot in back . Enough for about seven cars. It wasn't busy when I entered and I got a very nice warm welcome. Their menu has plenty to choose from as far as sandwiches, also a wide variety of potato salads and desserts 😋 I chose the Dean Martin sandwich, got a side of potato salad and a few desserts. The sandwich was well proportioned with meats, cheese, veggies and large . I spent $25 . But it will be two meals ( because the sandwich is large) so each meal will come out to be $12.50 not bad for a very good meal 👏 Good job "Tost"...
