The food is great, however, the service can definitely be better and was a huge turn-off. Had it been any other night, I would've left before eating a full meal due to the service I received. When we arrived, there were 2 parties ahead of my friend and I. One party left and one was seated shortly after. When it was our time to sit, there was a table available to the back of the restaurant and one located diagonally across from the front door, please note, there was no one behind us. The mid-aged woman working the front signaled us as it was time for us to sit. When I saw where she was heading, I quickly asked if it was ok for us to sit at the back table away from the draft (it was raining and 38° outside), but was unable to catch her attention before the chair was moved (small place. Only took a few steps). This resulted in her getting an attitude and I was basically ignored while she started to vent to one of the servers about my request, clearly bothered. After saying something along the lines of "I moved the chair to there (pointing to the front) but now she wants to sit there (pointing to the back), the exchange switched to their native tongue about my request. Honestly, I was prepared to move the chair and just wanted to be sure sitting at the back table was ok. The server, who seemed confused as to why she was annoyed, moved a chair to the table I requested but due to the negative reaction, after thanking him, I apologized and told him we honestly weren't trying to be difficult but just wanted to be as far away from the draft as possible. He responded and said it really wasn't a big deal. Another young man came to take our order, so we ordered 2 burgers, 4 skewers (2 lamb, 1 beef, 1 chicken) and wontons in hot oil. We requested to keep the menu as we were trying to figure out if we wanted an entree or if we were going to go the small plate only route. The 2 lamb skewers came, then the buns and finally the wontons. When the buns came, I had my bowl on top of the menu while still looking at it (honestly, I wasn't thinking and failed to move the menu) however, nothing was falling on the menu. The same woman came to take the menu, but I explained we weren't through with it. She then asked if I can move it to the side and I started to move the bowl to oblige. Instead of waiting for me to organize myself properly, she rushed me which caused a piece of green pepper to fall on the menu, which she then brushed off of the menu onto my clothes. I made a comment saying I was about to pick it up and asked why she would do that, but I received no response. At that point, I was fully ready to leave. Then, the server that assisted with the chair came to ask if we wanted anything else and said "I'm not sure if anyone told you, but we're out of the beef skewers". It had been over half hour since the order was placed, so obviously, just being told that an item we ordered wasn't available was frustrating. I said we were waiting for all of the food we ordered initially to come out (still don't know what happened to the chicken skewer) so we ordered some noodles and called it a nigh . While the food is very tasty, the ball was dropped on more than one occasion during last night's visit, so I don't see myself going back. I didn't feel welcomed, I felt disrespected and have a hard time justifying spending my money in a place that makes me...
Read moreNW Chinese is hands down my favorite restaurant in College Park. Their Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is my go-to dish — rich, comforting, and full of bold flavor. I’ve tried it with both the traditional knife-cut noodles and the rice noodles, and in my opinion, the knife-cut noodles are the way to go. The soup arrives piping hot, making it perfect for chilly days.
The sandwich appetizers are fantastic — flavorful, crispy, and perfect for sharing. If you’re dining with friends, I highly recommend ordering a few to split!
One of the true standouts on the menu is the sesame hot oil dumplings. They are a 10/10 every time — perfectly cooked, generously filled, and drenched in a savory, nutty, and spicy sauce that hits all the right notes.
Insider tip: take the leftover sesame sauce from the dumplings and pour it into your Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. Trust me — it takes the flavor to a whole new level.
I’ve also tried their hot pasta dishes, and they’re consistently delicious and full of authentic flavor. You can tell the kitchen knows their craft and cares about quality.
If you’re sensitive to spice, don’t worry — you can ask for your dishes mild, and they’ll gladly accommodate.
My only wish? That they expand or move into a bigger space. It gets busy, and while the service is always kind and attentive, you might have to wait a bit for a table. But honestly, it’s worth the wait. NW Chinese is a gem in College Park and a must-visit if you’re...
Read moreI went to this place with my husband for dinner this evening. My husband ordered lamb burgers for us, but the restaurant brought us pork burgers by mistake. They didn't apologize for their mistake, nor be polite to us. The waitress denied her mistake, and a Chinese male manager said there is nothing they could do. We really don't recommend this place and we are very disappointed by the service and management. Be very careful, THEY WILL GIVE YOU PORK WHEN YOU ORDER LAMB, because they don't respect your religion or value.
Growing up I hate pork and have been staying away from pork, due to the fact that special smell and health concerns. Growing up in a Jewish family, my husband hasn't ever had pork. After we got our order, we didn't realize what we were eating. I would rather say that the spice they use kind of covers the taste of pork, so I thought we got what we ordered. We trusted this place too much thus we didn't double check with them before we ate, so after we finished our meal and asked them with concerns, we were told that those were pork and they can do nothing for that. I felt strongly as if we were deprived of freedom to choose, as if we were set up and have to feel we deserve it.
I, a Chinese coming from China, feel so ashamed of this restaurant. As a restaurant, Northwest Chinese food doesn't serve its customers well; as a Chinese company, Northwest Chinese food will have bad reputation due to...
