Disappointing. This was the second of 2 visits that my husband & I have made to the Colonial Heights location in less than a week, and I must say that it was not as good an experience as the first visit. My husband & I went last Saturday to celebrate his birthday, and we had an enjoyable experience for the most part on that evening. Our waitress & her fellow waiter that evening were very attentive and pleasant to us, checking on us frequently, clearing our dishes as we finished with them, and asking if we needed anything. The food was pretty good & hot, and the only drawback was that there were three rambunctious teenagers acting up at the next table over from us. The mother of the apparent ringleader, however, shut down their obnoxious behavior after they started chasing each other in the restaurant. Tonight, though, there were no obnoxious teens, just poor service from the waitress, who was too busy talking to her co-worker to take care of her tables. We brought our 3 children with us tonight, two of whom are over 18 years, and our youngest, who's almost 13, all of whom are laid back & well behaved, so they weren't problematic to the wait staff, nor food attendants. We got water to drink with our meals, but one of the waters came in a visibly dirty cup that had some kind of black stuff up near the top, but we had to wait until about half way through our meal before the waitress finally came to check on us, and I asked for another cup of ice water while showing her the soiled one that she initially had brought us. She apologized & brought another one in a cleaner cup, but I was really disappointed in how long it took for her to just come and check on us, and clear away some of the dishes that were starting to pile up on our table. I could understand if the restaurant had been super busy, and the seating section we were in had every available table occupied, but that wasn't the case, tonight, and it was no more busy than the first night we came, which was on the weekend. I was rather embarrassed that my children, who don't often get to go out with us due to conflicting schedules, had to experience this reduced level of customer service, especially after we had experienced such great service on our previous visit. In order to recommend this location, I would have to say go on a weekend night, rather than a week night, to get great service. The food quality was about as good as the first night, so no complaints there, but customer service makes a big difference in whether or not we...
Read moreWe visited 8/8/2024, 11:47 pm, Ticket #F-0220, SvrCk: 204, and I had not been there in many...many...years......I was pleased to see the remodeled entrance and restaurant. My wife was just there yesterday, after many years absent having lunch with a co-worker who suggested we have lunch there today. Here is my observation, upon entry, the first person we encountered was the cashier (heavy-set white young female), who obviously felt customers were a distraction and does not like her job or position at the register. She was unpleasant, never smiled, short, and matter-of-fact when we asked any questions about pricing, drink selection, or anything related to the restaurant. We reencountered her upon exit when asking if we could refill our drinks to leave, again, short and matter of fact with pointing to the soda machines. This set the tone for me on the food. The fried chicken was off the chain in freshness, hot, and seasoned to perfection. The meatloaf, fried fish, sliced ham, and leftover breakfast sausages were all super dry. I decided to try the stuffing and a slice of pizza after my first plate. The stuffing was good, pizza, well, you all need to leave that alone as it was undercooked and barely met the requirement to have pizza. The lady who tended to the tables was super friendly and came around often, clearing items and asking if we needed anything. I was surprised to see there are no trays to make it easy to carry your food. I did not see a burger bar, but I did see a delicious-looking taco bar. My wife loved all her food, and you cannot beat the price and variety of choices. We paid $11.79 (We could have got a senior discount but did not realize it until afterward) plus $2.99 for a drink, which totaled $14.78 before taxes p/person. I pay this much for a Number 2 Meal, name the fast food restaurant, and do not get the variety or the "keep eating option" that Golden Corral offers. I will be back, the price and food is worth it despite an unhappy employee at the entrance. ...
Read moreThe prices are ridiculous in my opinion and their price cut offs for ages of kids are unfair a bit. Went twice within the last 3 months and this review is a combination of both experiences. Before these visits it had been 4 or 5yrs since eating here. One of our 3 kids got very sick for 2 days vomiting and such while there after eating their BBQ chicken and a piece of medium rare steak that was supposed to be medium well. Not sure which did it but one of them did, the rest of us only ate the steak and we're fine. One visit we were so hot having to eat in the banquet area because it was really the only area available that we could sit that would be less stimulating for our autistic child. Server I believe was special needs so we understood why we had to get up and ask for our drinks at times and such, I didn't mind at all. They did overcharge us but the manager fixed it for us. They got rid of their chocolate fountain. They didn't have any cotton candy or really much dessert available considering it was dinner time and 2 days before father's day. They did keep up with cheese pizza which is all my daughter could eat from there due to here medical issues. The other time before this she had to wait about 30 mins to eat because I had to ask them to make more because the 2 sliced they had was nasty. They still didn't keep up with it once it was gone. The steak medium well was good, not chewy or anything although a few pieces had a lot of fat on it. It's definitely inconsistent but hopefully reviews will help them improve. It cost us $102 for dinner for 6 people with drinks one being a child price and for lunch price for 6 of us with drinks it cost $86, so not much difference in price. We had 3 kids but 12 is the cut off b4 charged...
