I went with a friend for the first time. I ordered pulled pork by itself with cole slaw and drank water. The pulled pork was good naked but they had 6 sauces and NC style vinegar as well. The NC style and Southern Belle flavors were my favorites. The pulled pork, naked, is the best pork BBQ I've had around here hands down. It was not dry or over cooked and could be eaten with no sauce at all! Additionally, it was not greasy. I did not care for the cole slaw. It was made in the traditional manner with mayonnaise but I felt something was lacking as it wasn't really flavorful. It tasted like cut cabbage in mayo. You may like that but I prefer a little more zip. I drank water because I don't drink soda or tea and the lemon aide is country time made from a powder mix (one of the waitresses told me this). I also thought the side portions were very small for the money. I left satisfied but not full at all. My friend got the cheddar and jalapeño smoked sausage and collards and loved it. Meat portions were good but again even her side was small. I would eat here again but will still only drink water. The restaurant was neat and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also serve canned beer... maybe 6 kinds. I really like the wall decorations and the fact that they took the time to include local military from Fort Lee and our local law enforcement agencies. Very nice touch. Again I will go back to eat here! Give it a try if you're in the area. I think you will be...
Read moreUpdate - I spoke with someone about my experience. While the delivery was not ideal, Mission BBQ did try to make it right with me, and that means a lot. I am amending my review to five stars for their level of care.
We had catering delivered for a party last night. It was on time and tasty. However, the delivery experience was subpar. I selected Mission BBQ because I order them for work catering and they are usually pleasant, helpful, and set up quickly and beautifully. This was my first time getting catering from this location. The ordering and payment process was easy and they were very responsive to follow up emails. Yesterday during delivery, the driver unloaded her car and came in. She handed me a form with a hand drawn “gratuity” and “signature” line and said “you need to fill this out before I do anything”. I said okay no problem. Then I said “can you set it up here?” And she said “I am going to just stack it here so you can set it up however you like.” I said “I ordered from you because I expected you to set it up.” She rolled her eyes and replied “yeah, I can do it”. Then I filled out the gratuity and signature while she started, left it for her, and walked away to continue hosting my party. When I came back, the trays were in an illogical order (who puts buns last on the bbq buffet line?) and we were missing butter for the cornbread. We scrambled to reset the buffet while the guests came over. But people enjoyed the food and Mission BBQ has a...

The young black girl at the register was simply amazing and kind. She welcomed me and others, and I showed her my birthday email for a free sandwich. I ordered a pulled pork with slaw and a sausage (around 11:30 am, 7/20/2024), and she asked what I was doing for my birthday and offered me a medium drink. When I got my food, another lady, a white female just as Adorable, showed me my food, and I asked for Tupelo Heat and Georgia Mustard sauces. She asked if I had ever mixed them together, and if I had, it would be delicious since I like each individual. Customers remember this kind of personal touch, which keeps them returning to an establishment like this. All Mission BBQs I have visited are Welcoming; this one in Colonial Heights, Virginia, is simply Open Arms, Welcoming, and Accommodating. Please keep doing what you are doing. Many others and I will be back and keep spreading the word. Thanks for your Service, Dr. K. King, Colonel, Retired, US Army (also, E-4/SGT in the US Air Force).
