I’ve been looking for a place around here that makes really good fried crawfish tails and Cajun food in general. Today, I tried this food truck that is stationary just off of East Platte in a parking lot with plenty of room to park:
I tried and recommend both the fried shrimp and fried crawfish tails. I thought the big, juicy deveined shrimp were the best I’ve had since I’ve been in Colorado. They weren’t cooked to tasteless rubber, and the very light, crisp batter added to rather than detracted from the shrimp. The fried crawfish tails with the same batter were also cooked just the way I like them - still soft and sweet. The crawfish are actually sourced from Louisiana - not Asia. If you prefer a heavier batter, you may not like this food truck’s preparation but I thought it was wonderful. Bonus, the owner and chef is an Army veteran who attended culinary school.
I’ll look forward to trying the etouffe and jambalaya.
Now, I’ve had the etouffe - 3 times because it is excellent, in my opinion. Just enough heat that complements the flavors instead of drowning them out. I heartily recommend it. Jambalaya is next on my list. The problem for me is that I’ve loved everything so far and choosing gets mire difficult every time I try a dish that I haven’t gotten...
Read morePo' Brothers is a stationary food truck that caught my eye several times over the past few months, and I finally woke up this morning promising myself I would try it. They specialize in Po' Boys, offering Shrimp, Prawn, Sausage, Chicken and Alligator meat, all with Cajun seasoning and sauce.
Not quite sure how a sandwich of any kind can offer overwhelming nostalgia to a place I've never been to before (New Orleans), but Po' Brothers gave me that experience nevertheless.
I chose the Alligator Po' Boy and was transported to Bourbon Street halfway through the first bite. Before the flavor of the sandwich ever even hit my taste buds, the bite into the juicy, perfectly cooked, poppable meat, mixed with the perfect crunch of the exceptional hoagie had my eyes practically rolling into the back of my head. The Cajun seasoning in the sauce and Alligator meat hit next. It had the perfect heat to it, not too spicy, but enough to not let you forget it's presence.
Po' Brothers effectively had me raving about it all day to my wife, and there is absolutely zero doubt in my mind that I will ensure that I have every excuse in the book from this point on to make frequent returns to...
Read moreThis little Cajun shack produces some outrageously good Po' Boys! First off, their location is simply cool. You can choose to eat on one of their cozy benches or take your meal to go. Second, the menu is simple but divine, with choices of shrimp, chicken, crawfish (my choice) and Gator! There's much more to choose from, including sides and a la carte options.
Let's talk about the food. My Crawfish Po' Boy was delightful! The crawfish were still crispy when I got home and the remoulade had just the right amount of citrus to make the whole thing pop. I was impressed with the amount of crawfish on the sandwich. The bread had just the right amount of chew and was sturdy enough to hold the sandwich together. I ate the entire gigantic feast and was clamoring for more!
Overall, what a great first impression. Being a seafood lover in a landlocked area makes dining a tough sell. There are very few establishments with fresh, delectable seafood and this is one of those few places with great sea delights for the discerning palate. I was very impressed and will be back for so much more (I'll have the chicken next time!). Five stars, very much...
