I have never written a bad review before, but I felt so demeaned by a staff member at any establishment , I think it needs to be known what happened.
I went to Pubdog 2 days in a row - the first day, a beautiful Sunday where my dogs and myself had an excellent time.
The next day, was a Monday evening. Much quieter and easier to relax due to it not being so busy. When I walked in, a staff member who had remembered me, or my dogs, stated “welcome back guys!” I thanked him and sat down in the indoor portion of the off leash dog park to wait for my girlfriend to join me.
I waited for approximately 20 minutes - by this time it was approximately 6:20 PM (the restaurant closed at 7:00 PM this evening) when my girlfriend arrived to join me. At the time we hadn’t realized the restaurant was closing in 40 minutes until the staff member announced that last call was going to be at 6:45 and they closed completely by 7.
Although being extremely hard to understand and hear due to sitting in an indoor dog park (echos, people talking, and of coarse dogs barking) we heard a few reminder announcements about cleaning up after dogs and last call for alcohol at the bar.
Discussing the situation with my girlfriend, and unknowing the restaurant closed as early as it did, we didn’t know what time the kitchen closed - and me being sober for 6 months we didn’t want to order alcohol and decided we were going to collect our dogs and leave for the evening. As we were gearing up to leave at 6:40 - 6:45 the staff member came up to our table and abruptly stated “you have to buy something to use our facilities” we stated that we didn’t know that, to which he responded “I made two announcements about it!” And walked away. We were a little shocked and thrown off guard but decided we were going to leave for the evening.
We collected our dogs and began to walk out while the employee gave horrible, rude, and mean looks to us. My girlfriend, wanting to rectify the situation walked up to the bar to speak with the unruly and irritated staff member. When she did she explained that we weren’t aware of the rule and that’s when the employee began to yell at her stating “we have signs posted everywhere!!” And “ I made two announcements!!” My girlfriend apologized profusely and bought a dog biscuit to again try to de-escalate the employee. The employee then directed his rage at me and yelled across the bar “ARE YOU GONNA BUY SOMETHING!?” I responded with “No, I’m just trying to leave.” And he stated “you used our facilities for an hour and you’re not gonna buy something?” I responded with “I was here for hours yesterday and spent a lot of money here, I’m not going to argue with you about this, I just want to leave.” To which the employee stated “good then don’t come back!!”
Astounded - I agreed and left the facility in tears and shock.
I can admit when I’m wrong and if purchasing one of their products is a condition of using their facilities, I understand. I naïvely did not know this rule, And even though there were two announcements, and apparently signs posted, the situation when you walk in with your dog and an unknown amount of other dogs Is a little stressful to be Looking at signs. I didn’t hear the announcements about buying Products, and didn’t want Any alcohol due to my sobriety. The facility was getting ready to close, and the amount of unprofessionalism From this employee is something I’ve never seen before. I’ve been going to pub dog for years and I’ve never been treated with such disrespect. I’ve always experienced intense animal Lovers and a lot of fun here.
Admitting my mistake and breaking a rule is on me and I take responsibility, but looking at the totality of the circumstances at hand - the employee was unable to control themselves and lacked any type of professionalism in his work place. This employee represented this business very poorly, which is unfortunate due to it being a very special place in the town of...
Read moreETA: In addition to my earlier review regarding the supposed rule that "all dogs must be wearing collars in the off- leash yard". It's now a month later, and your Rules/ FAQ section has not been updated to mention this rule that is NOT posted ANYWHERE on site. If you're going to allow your assistant manager to make up bullshit rules on the spot, that's just sad. I've seen many dogs, many times without collars in the play yard. Guess I just caught Cheyenne on a bad day. Good form for a manager.
I've been coming to Pub dog with my doggos since somewhere around late 2018. Lately I've been bringing my dogs as a treat every few weeks. I usually grab a drink or 2 and a snack for the boys, but today I didn't get past the gate before having issues. I understand needing to try "new things" to keep your business functioning and profitable, but when someone is carrying a purse and has 2 excited dogs they're trying to wrangle, that is not the time to ask them to grab a table marker and carry it to a table. So, I made it to a table, let the dogs off their leashes, and my mini bulldog was immediately attacked by some 100 year old beagle. I called my dogs over and told them not to play with grumpy gus. Then Cheyenne came to the table, presumably to take my order. She looked at my dogs and said they need to have their collars on to be in the play yard. I gave a confused look and said that I'd been in numerous times this summer and it had never been mentioned to me. I only had a collar/ leash for one of my dogs, the other, I only had a leash for, and since he doesn't pull much, I just used it like a slip knot on him until we got to the play area. Cheyenne responds with something to the effect of "well, those employees dropped the ball and should've told you. " At this point I tell her, well, we're just gonna leave then, and I began putting the dogs back on their leashes and she raised her voice saying WOW! you're ridiculous or something similar. Well, Cheyenne, didn't you JUST tell me my dogs couldn't be here without a collar on?! I was just honoring your un-posted rule. Then she tells me it's been a rule since December. I find it interesting that NOWHERE on their website does it mention dogs needing to have collars on in the play area. Then, as I'm walking through the building to leave, she says "you can have a seat inside here and cool down if you like. Well, Cheyenne, I brought my dogs here to play, like I have many times before, so no, I don't want to sit inside and "cool off "while my dogs are wondering why they can't go play. I give my visit today 0 stars, but in the past I've had decent experiences there. Unfortunately though, our pub dog...
Read moreBeautiful place, large menu with a variety of drink options. I wish the atmosphere and the customer service matched because we would have come back. And of course, then there is the matter of our dog getting food poisoning… Let me elaborate:
I came to CO to visit my mom, take her out and we were in search of a place to sit outside with our dog and have lunch. This place came up with a decent star rating and was closeby. Seemed like a cute place for people that love their dogs. We walk in and everything is clean. We walk up to the counter and the lady there asks if it’s our first time here, after telling her it was, she explains the menu/layout/rules/bathroom locations etc etc. She fails to mention the “membership fee” until after I pay. When I ask about it she rolls her eyes and points to the sign. I explain I literally don’t live in this state and even have my driver’s license to prove that, and she flippantly says “it can be for your mom”—excuse me? How do you know my mom can even come here on her own? I didn’t want to fight or make a bad experience worse, so I ate the cost. It is strange how they can remove our choice to join/buy a membership and decide for us before we even know if we like the place…. Sneaky way to make money; dishonest practice.
Food was fairly decent and I did love the creative drinks they have to choose from.
We ordered the puppy bowl with an extra set of patties for him. He ate it up and had a wonderful time playing with all the doggies. It was nice to be able to sit outside, talk with the other dog owners and allow him to play freely.
Fast forward, within an hour of leaving that place our dog was sick. He drank plenty of water that we brought in and had a dedicated bowl. In addition, this cannot be something he picked up from a dog due to its sudden onset. Makes me wonder what kind of cleanliness/quality controls they have in place for the dogs’ meals, especially the meat.
We have a health department to regulate human consumption of food products, not sure if it covers this (doubtful). I feel so bad for my poor dog and the whole experience has been tainted. I was hoping to promote the place and make it a fun thing I can do when I come visit my mom—-instead, will try different places, share this experience and ask questions before trusting a business with this concept—will not...
