I have to express my extreme disappointment with Dice Guys, the local game store that I once thought highly of. Their practices surrounding the sale of Disney Lorcana TCG have left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I can no longer overlook their slimy tactics.
When the Lorcana TCG was released, local game stores were given an exclusive two-week window to offer the product before big box retailers. This move was meant to foster a sense of partnership between the company and the local stores, as well as to encourage the growth of the TCG community. Ryan Miller, the brand manager and co-designer of Lorcana, clearly stated that this was a way to bring new players into the local TCG scene and create a positive environment for enthusiasts.
However, Dice Guys have turned this opportunity into nothing more than a money-grabbing scheme. The Lorcana Booster boxes had a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of around $143. What did Dice Guys do? They shamelessly priced these boxes at just over $225, a whopping 56% increase from the MSRP. I thought that was bad enough, but it turns out that was just the beginning.
When I inquired whether they planned to adjust their prices when the product hit big box stores, I was met with a dismissive response: they "don't really adjust their prices." I should have seen the writing on the wall right then. Today, I discovered that Dice Guys are now selling Lorcana Booster boxes for just over $290. Yes, you read that rightāa mind-boggling 101% increase from the MSRP. It's abundantly clear that their pricing decisions are driven solely by a desire to make more money, regardless of the impact on the local community or the TCG scene.
Ryan Miller's words about fostering a positive partnership and encouraging new players are nothing more than empty rhetoric in Dice Guys' case. Their greed has completely overshadowed any semblance of community building. Their prices have skyrocketed to a point where only the wealthy can afford to engage in the hobby they claim to support. This does not foster inclusivity, community, or a sense of partnership. Instead, it alienates potential new players and leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of existing enthusiasts like myself.
While I understand that Dice Guys' practices may not be illegal, they are certainly unethical and antithetical to the spirit of the TCG community. I, for one, will never again support such a store that clearly prioritizes profits over the well-being and growth of its customers and the local TCG scene. Dice Guys, your reputation is tarnished, and you've lost a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am utterly disappointed and disgusted by the shameful business practices exhibited by Dice Guys in their release of Disney Lorcana. This supposed gaming haven has proven to be nothing more than a den of opportunistic price gougers, taking advantage of eager customers and tarnishing the gaming community's trust.
The egregious pricing (selling a Lorcana Booster box at a whopping 101% price increase) is just the tip of the iceberg. What truly highlights the ethical bankruptcy of Dice Guys is their disregard for fair business practices and the trust of their community. The gaming world is built on the foundation of shared enthusiasm, respect, and camaraderie. Yet, Dice Guys chose to undermine these values for their own gain.
Ethical considerations should be at the forefront of any business's decisions. Unfortunately, Dice Guys demonstrated a lack of moral compass with their pricing tactics. They've shown that they prioritize short-term financial gain over the well-being of their customers and the reputation of their store.I strongly advise against supporting Dice Guys in any capacity. Their shameless price gouging and blatant disregard for ethical standards have forever tarnished their reputation in my eyes. As a consumer and a member of the gaming community, I believe we deserve better than this. It's disheartening to witness a store we once trusted fall so far from grace.
PS - If Google allowed for a 0 star review, I'd still give them one star. In a way, they are paying homage to Disney. Their business model seems eerily similar to Scrooge McDuck's approach to wealth accumulation. I'm sure they too are having no problem swimming through piles of your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGiving 5 stars for the service that's provided, and I don't feel that 1-star reviews should be given just for pricing. However, I have some serious feedback for the owners:
Your pricing is a serious issue. I always want to buy from my LGS, however you are selling Dr Who precons at 25-50% higher then TCGplayer and 10-20% higher than Card Kingdom.
Furthermore, I had a holo the one ring that I wanted to trade-in for store credit however you guys offered 30% less then Card Kingdom.
This applies to almost everything you sell, it's 15-40% more than even Card Kingdom (which I usually consider a premium place).
You should be making money off the booze and other services, I am not sure why this has to be the case. In the end, I have wanted to buy from you all a lot (and would even pay up to 10% more to support you), but alas I don't buy anything.
I love having a LGS where I can play games, MTG, drink, and eat. Like seriously, we really need a place like this around. Also the staff has been super nice to me and I love the vibe (especially with the new setup, so much more room!!!).
It just really sucks that I buy all my stuff from...
