Went for breakfast and than another time stopped in just to pick up bread. Coffee was sour, go figure. It should instead be excellent. To avoid sourness, the beans have to be fresh, and unfortunately the supplier Bread Lounge uses for coffee is almost never a non-sour brand. The breakfast items that my son and I ordered were trying way too hard to be precious and inventive - gingerbread french toast, and biscuits and gravy that are hard to identify as such? Say what? If the owners wish to experiment with variations on the classic breakfast items, they shouldn't just have describe the menu items up on a blackboard, where patrons are in a hurry to order because they are in a line with others behind them. The sourdough loaves are excellent, mainly because these loaves are chunky, and the crust encapsulates a large volume of soft sourdough interior. Awesome! And you can get the sourdough loaves sliced, a real bonus. However, the baguettes are a different matter -- they are made so thin, that the interior is almost non-existent. In our extremely dry climate, if you make a thin baguette, it turns into a giant crouton when you take it out of the baker's oven and leave it out uncovered for for any length of time. And I had gone early to buy one, to make sure that I grabbed one that had been freshly made. Listen, I love that you're hear in Evergreen, Bread Lounge, goodness knows we need you here. However, excellent coffee and excellent baguettes should be your mainstays, to keep me coming back. Lived in Seattle, traveled in Paris, so am still...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhere to beginā¦letās start with the fresh out of the steam oven baguette. Eye rolling experience. The crispy flaky crust. The complex chewy crumb texture. Couple that with the warmth, and butter and jam, oh my. Rarely have I had a baguette that compares.
Letās move onto the Kouign Amman with lemon custard. WHAT IS THIS THING?! It presents itself like a lemon meringue pie atop a croissant, and delights in both pursuits. What a stellar pallet cleanserā¦and I hadnāt even āeatenā anything yet!
Then thereās the simple stuff: Bloody Mary cocktail. Done perfectly! āNuff said.
For the main course (yes, this was all consumed before 9am): biscuits and gravy. The only dish that didnāt impress! The biscuit was huge and scratch baked, with a nice sourdough flavor, and fried on the griddle (yes please). The green chili gravy quite tame but lacking in quantity, and in sausage! The overeasy egg, the only way to compliment a biscuit, completely overpowered by the absorptive mega-biscuit. Unlike the pastries, this dish lacked balance, but comprised of stellar ingredients. Work on this one please! You are artists!
If you have a morning where 1) youāre hungry and 2)I-70 is moving, head up to Evergreen and have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOh my gosh! Me and my hubby absolutely love this place. We have only been a few times so far but every single time they knock it out of the park. Yesterday we went by after an intense day of skiing and were wiped. We ordered pastries to eat for breakfast the next day: I got a Kouign-amann and hubby got the monkey bread. We were so hungry while waiting for them to make the rest of the food and scarfed down the pastries while waiting and oh my goshhhh. The Kouign-amann was so freaking good. The monkey bread had me about to faint it was so good. There are no words. Just go try it! We also ordered a turkey, bacon and avocado sandwich each. Love it on the Pullman sourdough! Always such fresh ingredients. Then we also ordered a Detroit style pizza for later, and omg the pizzaš„¹it was so good again. We ordered the pizza with the cheese bechamel sauce, sausage, tomatoes, and garlic. Absolutely chefās kiss. This place knows food and they sure as heck know bread! Thank you evergreen bread and cocktail lounge, we love you!! Oh and last thing: love the vibes in here. So cute...
